Here post information and references to 'Hampden' aircraft, etc.
A good place to ask historical questions.

Three from my library ...
Not shown is an authentic 1938 manufacturer's brochure, with prototype pictures, that seems to have gone missing.

A short essay on the Swedish Seaplane, the HP 53.

Extracted from Handley Page Aircraft since 1907, C.H. Barnes, Putnam, 1976, ISBN 0-370-00030-7.

Concurrent with the prototype Hampden (HP 52), there was an order for a coastal patrol seaplane from Sweden. It was to be primarily a torpedo carrier, with a forward firing 20mm in a nose turret, and an 8mm dorsal gun for self-defense. The initial request, in 1934, was for two aircraft capable of interchangeable float, ski, or wheel operation.

Development proceeded, but there were problems with requirements, availability, and what not .... read the book.

In Feb 37, Sweden accepted that they should instead get one HP52 Hampden for evaluation and ultimately they got the 5th production machine.

The HP53, such as it was, was taken by the RAF as L7271 flying with Pegasus engines. It subsequently, re-equipped with Daggers, became the Hereford prototype.

You will see pictures of L7271 with both Peggies & Daggers and now know why the nose looks odd.

Just found this PDF online that has some useful detail if correct. Looks like it was an article in the RAF SIG newsletter.

http://www.hrmtech.com/SIG/articles/hampden.pdf;

PS the text seems to indicate it was written by a Hampden aircrew member, so could be reasonably accurate...

Good info, may account for why the Valom kit has a grey interior in the bomb bay ...
