Were you thinking of another 489 Sqn kite then? As long as it's not XA-L or XA-Y the rest of the alphabet is available Not sure on serials though. AN100 - 167 was a block allocated to Hampdens though.MerlinJones wrote:I'm in with another Coastal Command bird...what numbers are available?

AN123 - D
AN156 - K
AN164 - R
There are plenty of other listed from outside of the AN- block, but I'm not sure which would be TB.1s, and which would therefore be in CC greys.

489 was an RNZAF squadron so the RNZAF Museum should have serials/codes of their a/c.

Pearl Harbour? Check!
Angel? Check!
Dora? Check!
Luft '46? Check!
Hampden is good to go, alongside a Valom Hereford.
I know that, being a very late starter, I'm contributing little to the Group side of things. That said, it'll be nice to follow where others have gone (and bumbled) before!

Re: Sign-Up and Chat
With Julian grabbing the easy Model Alliance option and Paul grabbing the only other one identifiable on the 'Net, does anyone have a clue for the serial for XA.T or XA.C?
I'm incapable of making up any other XA. code, without resorting to paint...and I'm planning on finishing this tomorrow, as per deadline.

I am not at home, so cannot check for the other XA- letters for you, but one of those three might be manageable -turn the C upside-down and you almost have a D.

Re: Sign-Up and Chat
Bruce,
I believe that:
-- XA-C is AE261. My source is a photo on pg 88 of Hampden Squadrons in Focus. Serial/Code match not confirmed/denied in Hampden File, but 489 Sqn use is; fate noted as Struck Off Charge 20.12.43. The a/c in the photo is not in grey/sky, but rather DG/DE over something. It might have been repainted.
-- XA-T is AT258. My source is aircraft listings in The Hampden File. Lost 9.4.43; dove into sea and blew up after attckings ships off Norway, presumably hit by flak. I do not knoew the camo on XA-T, not do I know if there was a replacement for AT258; it seems likely given that it was lost in April.
Of course with ALL the time I spent researching this for YOU, I'll never get mine done in time ....

Re: Sign-Up and Chat
As we have several very nice builds so close to completion, and this is the last day, and given that many are tied up with Christmas prep I propose, as per Merlin and the Angel build, to extend the finishing date (if folk are OK with that) to the end of Sat Dec 31st. Would that give those who are close to finishing time to get over Christmas and complete? Assuming that is as GB Leader I am allowed to make a small extension...?
