Ah yes, warm sea temperatures. Don't you need warm sea temperatures for hurricanes?jRatz wrote:As opposed to living on the east coast, slightly in the south, where the warm waters of the Gulf Stream flow gently by ....
Pah! you pesky folks with your continental climates! Come to our lovely mild - er grey, damp, wet, miserable - island!
(Hampden's looking good BTW, Paul)

Re: Paul's Patrol Hampden
Weather in the low-forties today - time to get the airbrush out!!
I spent last week working on various sundries. One thing I realised was that there was no way I was going to get the torpedo to look right, and lacking conclusive photographic evidence of how it looks mounted, I chickened out and used the closed bomb bay doors....
I spent yesterday masking off the canopies. I have discovered that I'm not that good at free-handing canopy frames and the endless hours spent cutting Tamiya tape to size IS actually worth the effort..... So I airbrushed both camo colours today, and added some subtle post-shading on the major panel lines.
Anyways, here is where we stand at the mo:
There's a little touching up to do on the canopy frames, but not too bad:
The white plasticard semi-circles are to help mount the engine cowlings. Note that the nose transparency's MG survived all the banging about during the masking/painting process!
Decals on later, then time for fiddly bits. I think I might actually get this done by Friday, before I go on vacation....

Good progress there Paul and excellent canopy frame masking. It's starting to look like a Hampden now

Re: Paul's Patrol Hampden
Ta-dah! I'm calling this one done, although it still needs a coat of matt varnish, it's too cold to airbrush today. Anyways, here she is:
You know, when I said that pre-/post-shading needs to be subtle, I really didn't mean THIS subtle.... Clearly, I need to go over them again with slightly darker paint...I can see a few little touches-up to be done, from these photos, and the aerial mast is being pulled back by the tension of the Aeroclub stretchy thread, so that will have to be replaced by a metal rod at some point. Otherwise, it's not too bad.

Cheers, Bruce!
The Dora is getting there, but I am very worried that my decals have silvered badly.

Great stuff Paul, though to me they just look so odd in that colour scheme, I'll make allowances since its a RNZAF squadron
