Re: Jim's suitcase...
That looks good, Jim...did you have any thoughts as to markings? 488 was a RNZAF night-fighter Squadron based in the UK...
"...488 Squadron reformed on 25 June 1942 at RAF Church Fenton, Yorkshire, as a night fighter 'intruder' unit equipped with Beaufighters. The squadron aircraft carried the code letters ME.
When it switched to a defensive role in August 1943 it re-equipped with de Havilland Mosquitoes. In November 1944 the squadron moved to France, and was based in Belgium and Holland in the closing stages of the war. It disbanded on 26 April 1945.
Possibly the top scoring 488 squadron Mosquito of the war was NF.Mk.XII MM466, ME-R, which shot down seven enemy aircraft between July 1944 and November 1944, after which the aircraft was passed on to 409 Sqn., with which it shot down another four.[10] In its night fighter incarnation, 488 Squadron flew 2899 sorties, shot down 67 aircraft and, in its intruder role, destroyed 40 trains. Pilots were awarded 5 DFCs, a DSO and an AFC..." [love and kisses from Wikipedia]

Re: Jim's suitcase...
Simon, I hadn't even considered codes, 488 is a good idea. I did MM466 in the Mosquito SKGB...SJPONeill wrote:That looks good, Jim...did you have any thoughts as to markings? 488 was a RNZAF night-fighter Squadron based in the UK...

Re: Jim's suitcase...
Ahh well then I take it all back, thanks Julian, and Merry Jolly silly season to all.
Got the wings tip lights done, and vac formed up some replacement canopies, I have Falcon ones, but I'd thought I'd save them for another time.
also glued some stretched sprue into the canopy holes,
to make a ledge for the vac canopies to sit against. Used the kit glass for the window behind the cockpit, needed a sand up in the inside as it had lumps and a couple of divots in it.
Also filled the prop holes in the spinners, ready for blurs.
Plan today after the xmas nosh, is that I'll build a radar antenna for the nose, some cannon barrels and maybe get some paint on then canopy sills.
Cheers

Re: Jim's suitcase...
Ahhh, after a good nosh up, and lashings of desert, I got a bit done tonight, while the kids were working off the sugar and chocolate..
Knocked up a radar aerial, a gunsight, faired in the upper window and..
stretched a bit of plastic tube for cannon barrels.
Splash a bit of paint on the sills tomorrow and hopefully get the crew and canopies on tomorrow.
Cheers

Well that's me, I'm not going to get any more done on the Hampden for this GB..
she's all primered and ready for paint.
We are heading away for a week, so I'll be climbing up the wall, ready to get back into it.
Thanks again Julian for riding sheriff on us, and thanks to everyone who gave their input, great fun.
Have a super new year.
Cheers
