Thought you hacked one up there Dirk. I have poor shelf life from MM Acryls. I don't know why. And I stir them at least once a year also. Now I hear PolyScale is history. That has been my paint of choice for ages.

Well done Dirk it is looking good so far.
I remember the first couple of times spraying freehand and boy was it scary stuff even now that feeling unfortunately never goes away as it is always in the back of my mind that I could spoil my model.
That said when it does work out right then you will always have the good feeling that you are experiencing now.
I found that by not having my paint mix too thin and having a low pressure (about 12-15psi )through the airbrush then freehand spraying became easier and more enjoyable.
Looking forward to seeing more of your build.

I think with the RLM82 (First color) I was too thin. As is applied it was very transparent. I also noticed that when I thin it too much the finish is very shinny but it all worked out. The key as you pointed out for me was the low pressure and I recently got a smaller tip for my airbrush

With a new air compressor in place it was time to apply the red underbelly color.



I'm under the impression that these red bellied birds didn't have the external fuel tanks but seeing as I went through the trouble of building I decided it was going to be mounted. I'm sure at some point one or seven were mounted here and there so...

Dirk it’s look good the red has turned out great, I find when free hand spraying, I thin the paint to the same consistency as skimmed milk and then turn the air down as low as you can, remember lots of thin coats are better than one thick coat, try just misting the first coat on and let it dry (I use the wife's hair drier to speed up the acrylic drying times) once the first very thin coat is on the second and third go on a lot easier.

The Dora is a great a/c to practice airbrushing on as you can try all the different techniques.

Thanks guys. The decaling started two nights ago but damn if these fragmented stripes aren't a pain to do. I mean they go on easy enough but in so many parts... Augh!!!

Steady progress has been made on this. Decals applied. All I need is the prob to be built and mounted. Then mounting it in its in-flight position. Pictures to follow.

Yeah, I took one look at the decal sheet and decided to mask them...

last night I sealed the decals with a gloss cote. For some reason (I didn't hear anyone else talk about this) almost all of the white stripes extended past the trailing edge of the wing so after the gloss cote dried I trilled the excess with a sharp blade. I secured the external fuel tank ad added the prop. I have to look things over but I think the lest bits will be to add the tail wheel, antennas underneath and mount it on a base.

Busy day so I'll try to get pictures up tonight or tomorrow
