Splash's attempt at a German WWII a/c ***Finished***

Post by splash »

It’s time to open the box and have a go at a subject I know nothing about.

As we are all doing the same kit I will miss out the box and parts photos, start the kit and update you when I have anything to show, I like the idea of the red colour scheme, but I also like the one that Dirk has displayed on his thread.

As usual I will throw the kit together give it a coat of primer then worry about what colours to use.

What a brilliant Little kit, this really is an Airfix gem.

I found little or no flash and the fit of the parts is excellent, with only the engine top cover and under wing join that looks like they will need a spot of filler.

It has only taken less than 15 minutes to assemble the main components, I can now see why this kit was picked for a quick GB.

You'll find no argument here Splash, as an Airfix kit it is so simple to put together and one of the most enjoyable at the same time.

When did Airfix stop making great little kits like this?

It's now all assembled and primed in white and time to pick a colour scheme.

I'm open to suggestions as at the moment it’s a blank canvas.

I like the red and white stripe and the colour scheme on Dirks page the one with the dark leading half of the wings on the underside or the Russian green with red stars looks good.

I just need a push in the right direction.

That sounds good do you have an image?

Brews wrote:No image on that. Not certain that there was one. However, this is a relatively pretty one - and in time for the Bodenplatte anniversary, too.
Thanks Brews, I will go for the Unit: 14./JG 26 Serial: 1+~ (W.Nr.210003) Pilot - Oblt.Hans Dortenmann (38 victories). Germany 1945 with the yellow tail and under nose.

I gave it a coat of light blue last night so it's time to get some green and grey on tonight.

Brews wrote:It's not especially light, but it is unsufficiently mauve for RLM 75 that's in-spec, and fresh. If you are weathering your model, the contrast is a little stark. However, I have a scheme for a Dora with RLM 76 on the upperworks ... and that contrast is very stark.
I have added more mauve and a bit of a darker grey which I think looks better, it's now had a coat of Klear and ready for the decals.

Decals on and set, followed by a spot of oil paint or should I say lots of spots of oil paint.

Followed by a matt coat.

You got a winner going there, Splash.

Very nice paint work.
