A great build so far of a very interesting type and I'm very much looking forward to more on this one.

Re: James' Argosy Odyssey
Not been able to do much modelling the last few days. The Argosy got prime, rubbed and re-primed. Then there was an abortive attempt the get the white on the the cabin roof - it just showed up that more sanding was required.
Anyway I've been mainly thinking about how to build the main undercarriage legs. I knew they had Y shaped main struts and had fashioned a pair from bits of plastic card and tube. I was stumped about how to attach them, as well as the single front strut, to a pair of wheels that had thick an too short strut moulded in between. Eventually I had cut both the wheels off and thrown the lump in the middle away and decided to build it all from scratch. I also had Jagewa's lovely photo's to work from, though the C1 differs slightly.
So the easiest thing seem to be to just copy it in miniature. Bits of wire, PE fret and Al tubing were cut drilled and filed to provide the parts on the left and then assembled into the leg on the right:
Once again fiddly and time consuming but enormously satisfying!

Re: James' Argosy Odyssey
Certainly is. I spent ages spraying on Xtraxrylix Middle stone this afternoon. I think I mixed it a bit too thin and it took several passes to build up the density. I've just given it a another coat this evening to even things up. I tried a couple of new things, firstly thinning with Tamiya thinners, worked well though they still clog the tip. No better or worse than the specific Xtracrylix thinners. Secondly as this is a small scale I thought I'd add some white to the base colour. Just a blob, nothing scientific. I'll do the same with the dark earth and black. Hopefully will give it a little more realistic appearance.Old_Tonto wrote:This is turning into an epic.
In other news the undercarriage is complete.

It's looking terrific James. Wish I could find a bit of modelling time to finish my twin-boomer.

Not had much time since getting the Mid Stone on but what time I have had has been spent masking. There is a lot of it and you start wishing the a/c just had a single tail like a normal plane. I've got the outline done in Blue Tack but I've still got to go round and fill it in!

Re: James' Argosy Odyssey
Cheers guys, I think I should have the painting done by the deadline but the decals which I've yet to have time to measure, source and print will have to wait to the following week.

Let's see where you are by the end of the month. I'm sure we can come to some arrangement . . .JamesPerrin wrote:Cheers guys, I think I should have the painting done by the deadline but the decals which I've yet to have time to measure, source and print will have to wait to the following week.

Re: James' Argosy Odyssey
Well I think it took almost another hour to fill in the blue tack with tape.
I then only took 10 mins to spray and another 10mins to remove. I've started masking for the black underside. Note I foolishly took the masking for the white off to make a better photo and then realised I would have to remask the edge to spray the anti-glare later
