Molly-News Red Vampire---Finished---

Post by Molly-new »

Now that I have recovered from the New Year celebrations :party I will be attempting to do my Novo D. H. Vampire.

It will be done as a Mk 5 from No. 502 Squadron, Royal Auxiliary Air Force, RAF Aldergrove, N. Ireland, 1956

Not too many parts so as to ease myself in to this years modelfest gently.

There are a few raised panel lines so I am going to have a go a re-scribing them, and the pilot needs a bit of work:

Instructions and paint guide are nicely detailed:

And is it red in colour scheme, or red as in Novo?

Yours easily confused,

Red as in Novo, the Soviet Union model manufacturer, and also 502 Squadron were know as the "Red Hand Fliers", with their badge being the Red Hand of Ulster:

I have made a start on the cockpit, adding a bit of an IP and a control ring as all that was provided was the seat and pilot:

It is indeed a fine kit, and going together nicely. The main sections are now together:

Over the weekend I aim to get some dinotape to attempt re-scribing the raised panel lines.

First go at re-scribing and it seems to have come out OK. Next time I will do the re-scribing before I assemble the sections as that should make things easier!?

I have added veins into the engine intakes, and as the machine gun and case ejection ports are missing I will need to drill them out:

For wings and horizontal fuselage lines yes. For vertical lines ie one that go around the fuselage it's better to do this once glued together so that the lines meet up at the the join.

Thanks for the tip James.

Novo, in my case I used a sewing needle held in a mini-drill handle to do the actual scribing. A steel ruler was used on the flatter wing lines, and a piece of Dymo tape was used for the curves on the fuselage.

Thank you, Molly-new!
So, all modelers use almost identical methods for rescribing.

"Almost" is correct. This is my first go at re-scribing and this method works for me. I imagine that other modelers have different ways/tools of doing it.

The Vampire has had a coat of primer which highlighted a few errors so it's back to the filler/sanding process

Some progress has been made at last:

Image

I have had a go at pre-shading for the first time, I did it freehand with a brush as my airbrushing skills are OK on large surfaces but pants on small intricate detail  . The bottom has also been painted in its final colour.
