Not hanging about are we! I´ve been playing with artificial grass bases too - just set in a wooden picture frame is a quick fix that gives a pretty neat base. I´m wondering whether to leave it at that or coat it with something.

I am in the Sharks Mouth GB and also in an auto GB on another site so needed to get something finished to reduce my workload.

That's my method too. Buy an old picture frame (cheap from charity shops), remove the backboard and glass and replace with 6mm MDF. For a grassy scene I coat in PVA and cover in artificial grass.

I also have some remnants of lino which looks quite effective:

I have come to a stop with the Vampire. Unfortunately the decals explode once immersed in water, so I tried with 3 coats of klear but still no joy. Luckily I made a scan of the sheet before I cut it up. The plan is to make my own. All I need now is some decal sheets, fixing spray, oh.... and a colour printer

I used some roundels and tail decals from the spares box, but this is as far as I can get for now:

Chip,

Great result! I feel for you about the decals, though.

As far as I'm concerned, you can call this finished and stick it in the Completions thread. Well done!

Martin

Anyone working with Novo and other earlier East European/Soviet Bloc kits, needs to prepare for finding their own decals.
Xtradecal does a useful range of roundels and serials, for just such an eventuality.

That is a brilliant build Chip, I wish mine had come out half as good.

What decals do you need? I am not planning to use the ones from my Heller FB.5. PM me if you would like them (no guarentee that they won't explode!)

Looking sweet. Xtradecal post war roundels are a worth while investment and a decal draw staple in my shed. You can still get the old Modeldecal sheets that give you dozens of choices for you Vampire too.

Thanks as always for the comments guys, and the offers of decals.

Unfortunately I bought this model purely as it had 502 Sqn markings, and is the first of my intended Squadron build theme. I made a scan of the decals as I anticipated that I may need to produce my own for future builds, as 502 Sqn do not seem to feature too often on decal sheets.

Old-Tonto has offered me some replacement decals so I hope to get this completed by the deadline. Just relying on the postie.

Well, if it doesn't work out on the 31st, you still deserve to put it in the completed builds section - so please do!

Unfortunately the postie has let me down so this is as far as I could get in the timeframe. I will post pics in the finished gallery and hope to get it finished asap.

Thanks to Martin for running this GB, it has been fun.
