P-51b Mustang of 112 Squadron **Finished**

Post by splash »

I’m declaring a Blitzbau for Wednesday 18 January 2012

I have a time on my hands and feel I need to get my mojo back, I have several kits on the bench that should have been finished months ago and I want to see one finished and finish quick.

My original plan was to build the Airfix Spitfire PR XIX as it looks a great kit but whilst trying to find it, I found a 1/72 Revell P-51B Mustang in my stash that has sharks teeth, so I thought kill two birds with one stone and build this for the GB as a Blitzbau.

This is my first attempt at a Blitzbau so I hope I have not bitten off more than I can chew, only time will tell.

Plan start time is, when I get up tomorrow about 9:00 local time in the UK.

See you all tomorrow nice and early.

Regards

It’s all down to timing, I have time this week but not in Feb, but if I do get time I do still have the Spitfire PRXIX to build.

O9:15 start the kit looks good with minimal flash and fine engraved detail.

I have decided to do as much painting before removing the parts from the sprue to reduce the delay between waiting for the paint to dry and assembly, I first sprayed the yellow chromate then hairy sticked the other colours.

10:00 paint finished waiting for it to dry before starting assembly.

Progressing well, I’m trying a new technique of using super glue for the main joints, I have applied the super glue joined the fuselage halves the wiped the surplus glue off leaving a good join that will sand smooth.

So far no need for filler and its time for a coffee break and a hot cross bun.

Lunch time is over and a quick coat of gray has highlighted two joins that will need attention.

This is a nice kit it had a date of 1998 molded into the wing, Airfix could learn a trick or two from this kit look at the fine detail on the wings.
