No pics, I'm afraid.

Base: hopefully being manufactured in Woking by my f-i-l as we speak.

Me262: decalled. Hoping to weather tonight, and varnish later in the week (although I forgot my varnish - in Scotland for half-term  )

Background: Photoshopped by a work colleague, but proving difficult to get my hands on a soft-copy jpg for providing to Jessops for printing.

I'm still confident (?) it'll all come together in time, but not long to go . . .

regards,

Martin

I'm declaring Schwalbe Take 2 finished. OK, I've still got to add a DF loop and a Pitot tube, but I'll wait till I get back home to do that and not risk breaking fragile bits off in the car. Apologies for the grainy pic. Different camera, no lighting and no tripod . . .

Image

I've also got the photoshopped background being printed as we speak . . .

Image

It's going to be 12" high and 28" across, and together with a stiffening of plywood (?) it's going to fit into a convex curved slot in the base.

I've done this build back-to-front coz I'm still not sure how all the separate parts come together. Backboard and base are currently 350miles apart! (Gulp!)

Plan? We don' need not steenking plan! (I hope).

regards,

Martin

The backdrop looks marvellous. It's definitely going to be impressive.

Thanks for your encouragement, chaps!

We got back home last night, and my f-i-l dropped off the base today. So, here's the first shots of the base. Apologies up front for the poor photos; I'm not good at taking photos without a tripod. However, I think they give you the idea.

Here is the base in the 'raw'. The 12" metal ruler gives some scale. Note that the base is all in one piece! It's not that heavy (say ~1.5kg / 3.5lb) but not too easy to transport.

Image

And here is the base with the photoshopped backing that I had printed. I will have to do a little trimming around the edges to get it to fit exactly, but it's pretty close!

Image

Finally, a close up of the Mossie 'sort of' in position:

Image

The Mossie will be positioned somewhere in the apex of the 'A' shape which mimics the shape of the original DD stand. The Me262 will be cantilevered from the back plate on painted brass tube, through the picture and the smaller Me262 I haven't worked out yet!

I need to paint the base - probably a satin black - and if I can print out an Airfix roundel for the base I'll do so.

Martin

Good grief that looks like some base! You've even bevelled the edges

James,

I can't take the credit. It was my father-in-law, Mark the joiner, who did it for me. I did ask for the bevelled edges though! Although the actual DD stand had angled edges, this was the best compromise we could make.

Appropriate amounts of Carlsberg will change hands as thanks . . .

I'm actually not convinced that how I've gone about this display is in keeping with the spirit of the thing. Everyone else has been very hands-on and 'made their own display', painting backdrops, scratchbuilding background aircraft, etc. For instance, the ingenuity you have shown is noteworthy here. However, I'm no DIY expert as I said up front, so unfortunately I've 'subcontracted' aspects of my 'build'. Maybe I'll be a bit more adventurous next year . . .

Don't worry Martin there are no rules. Last year I hoped there would be some collaboration between modellers who had different skill sets and there was a bit here and there.

My base has just absorbed a whole can of automotive grey primer (and it stinks)! Hopefully, the cut edges of the MDF will now have been sufficiently sealed so that the satin black will go on OK . . . . I'll let you know tomorrow evening.
