Achtung! Schwalbe!
Rapidly gashed up prototype mounting as below:
In reality, I'm thinking of mounting this aircraft horizontally cantilevered from a vertical backboard with the box art. If I can then bend the rod consistently to get an upward curve to it, I should end up with something approximating to the view below.

Martin

Looks good and I like the curving rod idea for the mount ...

Mossie in progress (built as part of the Insect GB) and mounted on a stand with the 262 to keep it out of the way of the kids / hoover etc. With a horizontal base plate, though, I can't get the 262 positioned as it should be, hence the pre-stall attitude in the photo.
Canopy has been kleared and PVA'd on since the photo was taken; also rocket rails have been added. I need to put some canopy frame lines on (strips of painted decal sheet), finish off the rockets - taken from a Hase Beaufighter as their fins were finer than the Airfix ones, finish off the decals, then matt varnish and weather.
Still need to sort out the photoshopped background. Then I can get started on the stand proper.

Martin

Re: Mossie / Me262 Dogfight Double
OK, so the Mossie is now more nearly finished, and the 'gash' display has been adjusted to allow the box top geometry to be better simulated. Here is the current contraption:
Here is a picture of the Mossie:
Once the decals were on and all was kleared, I randomly dotted on blobs of Humbrol enamel paint; brown, black, grey and yellow. Then, I moistened a broad stiff brush in enamel thinners and spread the paints out in the airflow direction. This has resulted in a non-uniform, dirty look that I quite like.
And here is the box art shot:
I'll finish off the last few details of the Mossie, then sort out a photoshopped background and start building the stand 'proper'.
Comments welcome.
regards,
Martin

That's really starting to look promising The effort in repeatedly testing the positioning will pay off and is a good lesson for other display builders.

That's a very exciting looking dio Martin, it capture the spirit of the Classic Box Art theme perfectly - I can hear the praise from the Telford punters already!

Thank you, chaps! Much appreciated.
I have enlisted my father-in-law to help with the display build. He's a chippy by trade, so hopefully we can come up with something reasonable.
regards,
Martin

That's going to be a real stunner when it's finished Martin. It should capture the box art beautifully.

I think this is shaping up very well Martin. I see the ex-insect Mossie has turned out very nicely.
