I have started laying down the split peas just using good old PVA glue.

Two nights work sticking split peas has got me to this stage. I'm happy with the effect and think after a coat of paint and a wash it should look OK.

Just rain some chicken broth onto those streets and we'd have a nice soup

I'd be tempted to put some grout on so the 'cobbles' don't look really really high.
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

I'd give them a spray of diluted white glue first to seal them.

The slit peas are looking good splash,

If I need a cobble street I now know how to do it!

Yeah, I'm assuming we don't want us to be known as the "Jack & The Beanstalk" SIG ....

Good idea Ian, I found an old tub of ready mixed grout in a cupboard and gave the peas a quick coat.

I think it has toned down the cobbles to a more realistic depth.

I have given the base a coat of black primer and then dry brushed it with a light brown and it's now looking less like split pea soup.

This kit is fighting me all the way, the plastic is very brittle and has a habit of snapping every time I just look at it, plus every part has a seam line and ejection pin mark that needs fixing.

Having said that it is a classic Airfix kit and still one of my old time favourites, tonight I did some more work on the base and have started to assemble the fire engine.

I need a bit of advice, the box art looks like the chassis is black but all the photos of the original show it red, what should I do Black or Red?

Even if you know it will be "wrong", go with the box art mate, otherwise people will notice and point it out. At Farnborough I had at least two people point out (very nicely and politely) that I had positioned one of the cars on my SR-N4 hovercraft diorama in the wrong place - they weren't wrong either, and I had a picture of the original box art attached to the diorama, so it was there for all to see!

Cheers
Al.

P.S. If it bugs you, you can always repaint it to the correct colour when you get it back after the Telford display (and UK tour next year of course :ha: ).

P.P.S. Found a photo to illustrate the point - notice how in the box art picture the green car has only just left the ramp, whereas I've positioned it a bit further away - two people picked me up on that alone (but ignored the missing van to the left - which doesn't come with the kit anyway!).
