Airfix 1/72 Douglas A-26 Invader panic build.
Having been told that John's builds will unfortunately not make make Telford it sounded like there may be some empty space on the table, so I resurrected this build which I started but then abandoned a few months ago. A basic kit by todays standards, thrown together very quickly, but is still a work in progress so should be tidied up a bit by the weekend.
I've also just started to splash some poster paints on a bit of primed MDF to try and re-create the box art background. I waiting for the greeny-yellow junglie bit to dry to put the mountains, sky and river bits on, then overlay those with cloudy, bombie, explodey bits.
Cheers
Al.

I had to go in for my tea, but managed to get this finished just before hand. About 45 minutes work in total including cleaning the palette and brushes used. A rough approximation of the box art certainly, but I want people to be looking at the aircraft, not the background!
I will probably dust the painting with white and light grey chalk pastels to give a greater impression of smoke and clouds, and make the detail less distinct, as per the box art.
Cheers

You are the box art king Al, they'll need a table just for you and your builds of course
Great stuff Al, you are certainly capturing the spirit of the box art.
Cheers

Didn't finish it in time for Telford, but look out Huddersfield, here we come...
Altaya/Ixo 1/144 diecast trick used once again to force the scale perspective. I think it works if you view the whole scene from a few feet away!
And the knobbly old cheese grater that is the Airfix 1/72 Douglas A-26 Invader - she's no Tamiygawa but I still love this old kit to bits.
cheers
Al.

That is simply fantastic. I'm so impressed by you guys and the box art builds. Where did you get the smaller A-20?

I'm going to bring a big arrow to point at my timid little Dinah build else it is not going to get noticed next to all these cracking monster builds you knocked out Al!

It is an Altaya Ixo die-cast model - I just kept an eye out on eBay Dirk. This company does a huge range of many other things as well as aircraft - they are actually quite accurate models/collectables rather than just toys. The trick was finding one in the correct scheme for the box art.Dirkpitt289 wrote:That is simply fantastic. I'm so impressed by you guys and the box art builds. Where did you get the smaller A-20?

I was a bit worried that we might end up with more table space at Huddersfield than we originally bargained for! Your Dinah (very rightly) got the lions share of attention at Telford as I remember it - no arrow will be required, but I may print out some small cards describing how you scratch built the smaller models to save me having to explain to punters so often like I had to last NovemberJamesPerrin wrote:I'm going to bring a big arrow to point at my timid little Dinah build else it is not going to get noticed next to all these cracking monster builds you knocked out Al!

That's agreat idea! Some In progress images would add a lot to the display as a lot of questions are about how did we do it.
Btw I've printed out some sheets of blurred props. If I get time I'll also cut some out.

Great job, Al. Only thing I can add as a build is have you thought of adding some thinned yellow to the outside of the prop blurs?
