Blitzbau X Rules, Sign-Up, and Chat

Post by JohnRatzenberger »

Here's the usual rules -- your GB Leader, jssel, will fix them up as he sees fit.

Any time from Wednesday 1 February through Sunday 29 February.

Any subject, any scale, any kit -- unstarted, no whining.

Built in a 24-hour period (not 24 building hours). The only alternative, AKA the "wuss" or "senior-citizen" option, is to break the build into TWO approximately equal sessions on consecutive days and the gap between sessions shouldn't be much more than 12 hours.

Photos to be taken with a visible clock, at reasonable intervals throughout the build to document progress -- one hour is typical but may be a bit much -- but do remember the more frequent the posting, the better the interaction and that's what a Blitzbau is all about.

A gallery photo should be posted of the "state of play" at the end of 24 hours, which should also be posted WITHIN 24 hours of "finishing".

Extra non-credit is given for uniqueness of the clock and the on-plate presentation of the meals to be consumed, among other things.

As always, sign-up here then create your own thread when you are ready. It's always good to create your thread a few days early and give your intentions so others can schedule watching time.

As always, Have Fun !!!

I am so in on this. Especially since I am leading it. Look for the Matchbox A-4M from me.

John has covered our time honored rules. Any alterations to those rules will be case by case..... but don't expect any changes. I mean, come on really.

Here are a couple of pointers that I have used on Blitzbau's.

1. Simple kit with few parts and relatively good fit.

2. Simple paint scheme: Something like overall glossy sea blue or grey. Maybe just uppers and lowers to paint.

3. Look over potential start days, maybe a time when you can be home alone. Plan way ahead by reading instruction sheets. Get a handle on what needs to be done to your satisfaction. Many parts, like wings, under wing stuff can be put together first to speed things up. I have sourced out external fuel tanks for the A-4M already.

4. Check your supplies ahead of time to make sure you have everything in place.

5. Don't answer the door bell when the church people or taxperson shows up. :ha:

6. Remember when we were first starting out in this hobby. Buy, Build and be of Op's in the shortest time. At least before the call to dinner.

Feel free to add to the list on just what works for you.

#'s 2-6 are good. I prefer, in #1, to select a kit that borders on the knife-edge of do-ability and lunacy ....
My 50-50 record reflects this ...

I will start looking in the stash very soon ....

You don't really need to be involved in a Blitz to follow rule number 5.

Hope you can join up, Carlos. The new Zero would be a great choice from what I am hearing and the Airacobra by Airfix, Academy or Heller would also work nicely.

I shall watch with interest whilst sanding the fuselage of my 747 in the 4+ engine GB, I think you're all quite mad :-)

I should have thought about those before I did the Airfix Sunderland as a blitz. I'm still undecided what to build so I'll have a rummage through the stash to decide, maybe something CBK methinks. Matchbox being a hot favourite for me.

All the best.

OK. I was looking for something totally non model related and a Matchbox Vickers Wellesley fell off a box right in front of me and landed on my foot. Not sure about this karma thing but I've now got my kit to build.

All the best.

That is one you do not see built up very often. Can't wait and good luck.

I have an Airfix Spitfire PRXIX just crying out to be built and I have a spare Wednesday this week so I’m game on.

As the Spitfire is only a simple two tone colour scheme I might build a PM Fokker D XXI at the same time if thats OK?

That would be great, Splash. The Spit is a very good kit and wonderful blitzer. That Fokker was a Spitfire. :ha:

Well somebody would have said it, right?
