Karl's Kobrastochka - *out of time*

Post by carlos »

Digging through my small stash for something simple with a basic paint-job, I've settled on the Airfix P-39 Airacobra, in Russian markings.
I've gone with the Russian for a coupla reasons:
First.... and mainly - because the US decals supplied with the kit, call for some white painted areas, and I want to avoid waiting for multiple poor coats to dry.
And secondly, I'm currently mid-build of another Russian WWII aircraft (ICM's Tu-2), and it would otherwise be all on it's lonesome as the only Soviet on the shelf.

And from the instruction sheet - I'll be building this one.

I've never built an Airacobra of any description, but this kit looks basic enough - though there is a fair bit of flash... as with anything by Airfix from way-back.
I'll be doing it either Monday or Tuesday (20th or 21st),
Currently on bench: ICM 1/72 Tupolev Tu-2

Good luck with this Karl. I've not built this one before so know little about it. But it has been built on this site several time so a search would turn up some good information for you.

I will be tuning in late tomorrow if you start then.

I built one of these last year. Even though its an old kit I did enjoy it a lot.

Here is the build if you want to have an idea what you might encounter a head of time

LOL, yeah - had a bit of car-trouble to sort out this morning.....

I'm considering starting late tonight - just before bed - maybe paint interiors and some small parts, and leave overnight to dry.

Car maintenance, carried out simultaneously, would add to the spectacle. I'm fairly sure in saying we haven't seen that before, although I did once steal a balance weight from one of the wheels on my daughter's old Polo for noseweight.

Did she not notice the sudden wheel wobble?

She was lucky you didn't need some brake fluid to strip some paint. Wobble wheels and no brakes are no fun as any mini owner will know.

BMW now fit brakes to the modern version of the Mini, something to do with health and safety. It's a fun spoiling obsession these days.

Oops got a bit off topic there. It's that Monkey man's fault.

Looking forward to the start of your build Karl.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

And..... I'm up and running.
From 3am

Will do maybe an hour or so's work before bed, and continue in the morning.
'Air wars' has just started on Discovery History - the Eastern Front, '41 to '45 - a nice accompaniment for a little while

Image

Took a look at the sprues, and decided to replace the seat with a spare from a Revell Lancaster - you can see the black seat in the pics - a bit of sanding and it should look near enough the right shape if seen through the thick-ish canopy.

Ah well - better crack-on

Interior green bits painted, and a quick note before I start sanding that seat to shape...

Was in my LMS today.
Car needed a tyre, so I stopped in on the way home.... as you do :-D
Picked up a New-tool Airfix Zero, Airfix 'Val', and an Italeri MC.205 Veltro.
Almost changed to either the Zero or Veltro at the last minute.

Who knows though - I've got nowt planned for the rest of the week, and a slowly-growing stash which needs to be addressed

Hi Bruce
You can give your eyes a bit of a rest for a few hours - LOL

It's just gone 4:30am here, and I'm off to grab a few hrs sleep very shortly.
This was the state of play a few minutes ago

Image

I'd hoped for a bit more, but I'm slowing drastically, and concentration is wandering.
Gonna slap a first coat of red on the nose of the fuselage halves, then crash out for a while...
Don't expect to hear any more from me for at least 4hrs - maybe more.

Goodnight..!

That's a pretty good start for that time in the morning, I'd have nodded off getting the sprues out of the box!
