Airfix 1/32 Ford Escort
Greetings!
Welcome to my Ford Escort build. My first car was a Mk II Escort and the Mk I was still pretty popular at the time. So I do have a fondness for the model. Unfortunately they were very unreliable so I gave up on them when the Mk III came about.
Here is the boxart.
And the sprues.
As you can see it somes with a little fella! Not sure what colours he is going to be adorned with yet. He even has a shirt and tie combo. If this was an 80's car it would be a very loud shirt and tie combo!

Re: Airfix 1/32 Ford Escort
For a starter kit this has a lot of pieces - 87!
I've started off painting the underside of the chassis matt black and a few of the other parts silver. I've also given Matey a pair of blue slacks. I'm not sure what other colours I'm going to give him yet. Something beige I think.
From memory I'm pretty sure a basic MkI would not have had silver pedals which is what the instructions look for. Black would be more realistic I think.

Re: Airfix 1/32 Ford Escort
The pedals might have been silver, my mini that was the same age had basic metal pedals, but as you say black would probably be correct as they tended to have rubber covers.

Re: Airfix 1/32 Ford Escort
Well I remember in the late 70's we used to hire a puke coloured mkII to go on holidays, we had it 3 times in a row. I know it was puke coloured as I used to get terrible travel sickness. Thank god for the family rail card!MerlinJones wrote:Methinks James has been delving into the history books in his local library.JamesPerrin wrote:The mkI was a car of the 70's so kipper tie and paisley shirt.

So the 'paisley' shirt didn't start the journey as a paisley shirt?

Re: Airfix 1/32 Ford Escort
A mate of mine had one of these- he used to start it using a 2p piece instead of the car key- there was a huge hole in the floor next to the brake pedal that he used as an ash tray.
