Splash's Top Gear Triumph Herald Boat

Post by splash »

Once I have been up the loft and recovered my Airfix 1/32 Triumph Herald I will start converting it to a sailing dingy.

This should be a straight forward roof chop add mast, rudder and sail, what can possible go wrong?

I have been up the loft and recovered my Airfix British Classic Cars of the Sixties boxed set, that contains a TR4A, Ford Escort & Triumph Herald.

The good news is the Escort has a driver who will soon be named James May, dose anyone know how to add long hair to a 1/32 scale figure?

It's now the time to chop the roof, which as the first move is the point of no return, no pressure then.

Image

I attacked the roof with a knife, razor saw and cutters.

Image

Im happy with the way the roof came off with no damage to the windscreen frame, here is a dry run to see what it will come out like, I have noticed that there is no internal door detailing, so some scratch detail will have to be made

So far so good :-D

A sail that's a thought, I'm thinking tissue paper and PVS glue.

When the boat was first on TV for the float test in the lake it had orange sails but when they tried to cross the channel it had white sails, I think the orange gives it more character what do you think?

I agree an orange sail is the best option.

Tonight I did some work on the interior and had a look at how to box the engine bay in, as I can't see it floating in its current state

I think the Top Gear Team must have boxed in the underside to gain enough flotation for it to float.

I had planned to cut back on the number of GB's I joined, but this is to much fun to turn down, as you c an see from my work bench.
