My Nemesis Build : We all Scream for Starscream

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

this is what I am aiming to achieve

http://www.allspark.com/forums/uploads/ ... 375911.gif

A more f-15 like appearance with the 1980s decals and decals from around the house....

On to the build

Those not familiar with Hobbyboss kits, there are no stages of the build, there are 4 diagrams showing you which bits go where
I have started by joining the rear fuselage halves together and I have painted it white, it still needs more coats but its ok. I have smoked the canopy and cut from the sprue all of the cockpit components. I have added Weight to the nose in preparation, and I have painted the under carriage legs....

But its bedtime now

Build progress, I have painted the rear fuselage ( because im a hairy stick user i primed using guesso) I have started painting the tail fins white, the red intakes and I have started assembling the cockpit, I have also painted the conformal fuel tanks white on the sprue, the undercarriage legs and wheel centres. I have also painted the cockpit smoke, and because starscream wasnt a flyable jet I will not be pating much attention to the cockpit, t will be closed and you will not see it anyways. Once I have completed my next stage of assembly I will post another picture

the only problem with priming with guesso btw is that it completely fills i all of your panel lines ( they are still visible, but may have to rescribe or try and draw them in in daylight, currently planning how to paint the red lines in the wings.....

Thanks Nigel, I have been pondering about this kit for so long it became the reason i couldnt build anything else, I was going to build with sidewinders, but according to the transformers website, starscream isnt starscream without null rays.

Tonight I have spend scratch building Null rays, Thanks go to Blohm wolf for his message relating to null rays they are not perfect but for what you will see of them they will be ok.
The construction of the null rays consisted of 2 1:32 Sidewinders, modified with a knife to accent the nose profile, 2 x 1:48 Paveways with the warheads cut off and then 2 x 1:48 sidewinders from an airfix tornado kit ( they come in halves with no fins) these halves are then chopped in to two pieces and joined to the side of the paveway casing and a smaller piece goes on the top) I used the airfix sidewinders to take away the sidewinder shoved into a paveway look. All the gaps were then filled with filler primed with guesso ( which im waiting to dry before i paint a bit more ) and will post pictures once the primer has dried....

This is looking really good!

I still am having trouble trying to measure up for the masking on the tail, yet you seem to have gotten that pretty good, as well as leaving the nose off until you paint the intakes (which I should have done)

i have added the conformal fuel tanks as well now, made it easier to hold, so the cockpit section will go on next.....

This evenings job was to attach the jet pipes, weather the radome, null rays and add some panel lines. I have also added the redlines on the leading edge of the wings, I have glued the null rays to the weapon pylons but as they are pretty heavy its proving a challenge....
Its upside down so the null rays can set....

I got in the zone last night and have been doing a bit here and a bit there, and whilst it probably needs more weathering and I need to straighten the wheels but then to be fair the null rays are pretty heavy..
There werent enough decals for the Decepticon emblem to appear underneath, the air commander logo only appears once too, bu they adhered well. all weathering ( going from pictures of the masterpiece ) was done using a 5B pencil and rubbing, i depicted the panel lies with a mechanical pencil, which in many cases had to be rescribed as the guesso filled all the cracks and panel lines, and typically no sooner had I painted it I found my halfords primer. Apart from my canopy being black and the original one was orange, everything is how I wanted it, it looks like starscream and Im really pleased with it.

Oh my word im sticking a fork in it and calling it done.... its finished, my first finish for quite a long time

It looks great!

I really like how the null rays turned out too. A real treat!
