Lindberg Lunar Lander

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

Still very hyperactive although he did sleep through the night again last night. I was thankful as I had to teach an 8.30 am class this morning! Plus we had a wee bit of snow, just to make my day complete!

Speaking of complete, the last of the parts arrive from Hong Kong. These little cases are toothbrush head covers to protect the bristles.

I have to add doors and probably some sort of mechanism to raise and lower them to the ground. Another idea shamelessly nicked from Thunderbirds :-D

Image

Think of saddlebags over each of the landing legs and you'll see the general idea. Another $2 well spent.
I have two spares, so I may have one open as the carrier for the lunar rover.

cheers

A very satisfying amount of progress this afternoon.

Image

I couldn't get a fuel tank in behind the crew lift rails, so one tank gets positioned elsewhere. The other seven tanks are now in position on the base.

Image

The rest of the framework is now in place, and some of it has been decorated with the extra "equipment" from the kit and scratchbuilding efforts. Still more to add. One side is relatively free from clutter,so I'll add the decals there.

Image

I have also added mounting rails onto the storage pods. I need to add more to the actual legs too.

cheers

This is looking very good. There isn't a Von Braun in the family tree is there?

Slept okay for two nights in a row now. Let's hope the winning streak continues. Fortunately I don't have any more early lectures now, so it's not quite so bad!

I have just been to the LMS and came away with no more than two Vallejo paints, some putty and some plastic card. Sorely tempted by the new Airfix Blenheim tho'!

Glad to hear he's getting more sleep and I do hope that continues for you. I largely avoided temptation at Telford last month and stuck to restocking consumables. I did, however, succumb to a couple of cheaply priced Matchbox vehicles

Matchbox vehicles should always be bought, if reasonably priced. No guilt necessary. :)

Here are the storage pods:

Glad to hear the sleep situation has improved, that's always a killer.

This is coming along really well - it'll look great when done!

I'm intrigued as to where Mrs Beckham's luggage is going to fit

This is starting to look brilliant, I like your use of colours, much better that NASA's white/black & gold foil look.

Mrs Beckham's luggage requires putty in the seams.

The luggage is now blue. I have to disguise the seams though. Maybe some aluminium tape.

The spacecraft is mostly finished.

Aluminium tape stripes on the luggage:

The lunar lander now has a moonscape to sit on. This is a modelling material called Paperclay, which is like an instant papier maché. It dries in air and hopefully will not crack as it dries.
