Lindberg Lunar Lander

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

First go at the lunar surface.

Image

Light and dark grey acrylic paints with brush strokes radially from the centre to simulate disturbance from the landing exhaust.

There are still some white bits to cover up. A dark wash is next.

Excellent. That Paperclay material seems to have done the trick and has dried without cracking. Good stuff.

Nice rocket blast on the moonscape. It's subtle, but noticeable.

Here is the lander on the surface.

The luggage pods have been added to two of the four landing legs.

Some pods have been lowered to the surface.

Looking good. Any figures to go with it?

Yes, there are three figures - not that great, but they'll give a sense of scale.

Nice! You could always invest in a set of the old Airfix astronauts.

A huge improvement on the original kit!
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

They're a bit too big Paul. This is a 1/96 kit, so it needs populating by Frog pilot figures. The Airfix astronauts (I had 2 boxes) seemed to me to be on the 1:72 side of HO-OO

I've added the astronauts on the surface, the lift platform and two docking clamps under the command module

Well done on a well thought out model. The astronauts bring the scale right home.
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

It's essential with a vehicle which is not familiar, to have some scale reference. The figures aren't great though!

cheers

The finishing touches. A few items on the ground near the astronauts, and one of them is now carrying the Self Contained Atomic Power Unit (aka a small piece of brass rod :ha: ).

Image

The luggage pods now have doors too.

Image

I need to get better final photos, but I think I'm going to call this one finished. I was originally going to build a lunar rover too, but I need to move along to get other projects finished too.

Image

It's been great fun hacking this kit to pieces and then putting it back together.

cheers
