Pegasus Supermarine Spiteful PR. XV

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

Pegasus Supermarine Spiteful PR. XV

Post by AndrewR »

With the accelerated production of the laminar flow wing units, many Spitfire XIV were converted into "interim" Spiteful XII. When production of the Spiteful XIV began in earnest, a photo-reconnaisance variant was also built. As usual, cameras were added in the fuselage and fuel tanks in the wings. They became the standard RAF single engined photo-reconnaisance aircraft until the early 1950s.

The old Pegasus Supermarine Spiteful kit, with the wing guns omitted and painted as a photo-reconnaisance aircraft.

The canopy, exhausts, undercarriage and propeller come from the Airfix Spitfire F.22 kit. The tailwheel is from a Fujitsu Spitfire FR.XIV kit, and the wheels from the Xtrakit Spitfire F.22.

Image

The base paint colour is US Intermediate Blue, because I couldn't find my pot of PRU Blue

Image

There's no interior to speak of, but I did use a photoetch headrest from an Eduard Wildcat. Given the black interior, you can't see much anyhow.

Image

The decals are from a real Spitfire PR.XIX and are taken from the Freightdog Post-War Spitfires sheet.

Very nice job Andrew; it looks nicely mean and broody! The pre-shading looks good too
Best wishes

Painted the lights last night. But that's a cunning plan.

You've done a great job of that Andrew, I'm totally convinced by your whiffery and indeed fully believe the aircraft saw service

Lovely in that scheme.

Here is an old Falcon Vac with Trumpeter decals that I built as a What If.
