Completed Bandai Y-wing

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

Completed Bandai Y-wing

Post by mylo66 »

Hi space cadets, heres my first post to this fine forum. If you have an interest in this model then im guessing you have already read/watched reviews
saying how great these Bandai kits are. well i can only agree. Forget the fact that they are `snap together` the only effect this has on the model is
the spot on fit of components, if it doesn`t fit you`ve done it wrong ;-) . One thing i would say is search online for english instructions. They are
straight forward to put together but every now and again...

Excellent! I have this and the others to build, and I'm itching (the Doc has prescribed cream) to get one on the go; the detail is just screaming out for loads of weathering and washes :-D

Did you glue and paint yours or snap and decal?
Best wishes

Hi Iggie, yes glued (i cant help myself) painted & decaled. When i build aircraft i normally brush paint but because i didn`t want to loose any of that crisp detail i
got some Tamiya insignia white spray, i`ll be using that on my millenium falcon as well. Oh by the way you`ll need to put your patient head when you do the pipework.
I painted all mine on the sprue (humbrol dark earth with some orange added to taste)

Cheers for the tip on the pipework!
I bought the Revell 1/72 Falcon so I can have them all 'same-scale'; it's not as good detail-wise as Bandai, but it'll do after a re-paint and some extra fiddly bits are added.

They will look brilliant all being the same scale! Shelf space prohibits a 1:72 falcon for me  I will be posting my 1st generation X-wing & AT-ST on here at some point although i don`t want to over post to soon. Do you have the Tie fighters?

I never let shelf space worry me! :-D
I have the Advanced Tie fighter (Darth Vader's) and may get the 'basic' Tie in time....which means I will get one!
Best wishes

Nice, i think the basic tie is next on my list but that has to wait till the flacon is finished then i have the new Airfix stuka to do. I kind of have a
buy & build policy otherwise i`d never finish anything.

Great looking Y-wing. I always preferred the look of these to the better known X-wing. 8-)

Most appropriate analogy. Less glamour, less speed and agility, but rock solid, and a very accurate gun platform (x-wings fire bursts and miss most shots, y-wing fire a single two-gun shot, tie fighter dies either way).

Cracking build. Those Bandai kits really are something else from what I have seen of them, which makes me feel churlish as I remember being a bit upset that Finemolds lost the licence to them. but I will eat my words gladly - your Y-Wing is a fine example sir 8-)
