Calling International Rescue

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

FAB!

T4 must be tiny in that scale.

Here is the T2 part of the set. Very hard dark green plastic. Raised panel lines.
Image

The cockpit is moulded into one piece, and then you slot the nose section over that.

Image

The pod has no internal detail, but given the size of the pod bay door :-D nothing will be seen.

Image

The fit is okay, there are one or two places which will need filling. The worst area is the rear bulkhead.

Oh yes. Less than 2cm long, as far as I can see.

The T4 sprue in bright yellow includes the launching ramp. I may try and sneak a bit of photoetch onto the ramp, to make it look better. I have some 1/700 IJN steam catapults, which would look better than a solid moulding.

Here's the flight deck, sprayed in Light Grey.

It's around 15 cm/6 inches. I'll get the ruler out after supper!

The interior is painted in light grey, with the seats picked out in red. There are decals for the instrument panels, which are completely unlike anything on the actual TV programme! Not that it matters, as everything will be invisible when the nose section is added!

Image

TB-2 measures up to be around 7 inches - it may get a little longer with the engines and nose attached.

Image

One side of the pod has a nasty step on it, and vigorous sanding is underway

Vigorous sanding is a favorite in modelling, right next to watching paint dry.

Nice cockpit, though!

Oh my word that 1/72 scale looks about the same size as the real thing! And by real, I'm sure you know what I mean :ha:

I have seen these Aoshima kits on Amazon and added Thunderbird 1 to my wish list, so I'm really keen to see how this goes together and am loving yours so far. I am pretty sure that no modelling cave is complete without at least one Thunderbird sat on the shelf. You know, just in case anything goes wrong and needs rescuing at any point. Given that in one episode Allan managed to find a solitary astronaut floating about in space, I'm fairly sure that he would have at least an even chance of finding a bit of photo-etch that has pinged off as an offering to the carpet monster :ha:

It's worth looking on eBay, as Tokyo Hobby sometimes have good deals on.

They have the TB-1 kit on at US$20/£14 at the moment.

Andrew, you're building one of my all-time flying machines (fictional or real). Lovely to watch.
