Completed Bandai Millenium Falcon TFA

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

Completed Bandai Millenium Falcon TFA

Post by mylo66 »

Its another excellent kit from Bandai, as with the Y-wing some very fine (maybe finer) piping to add to
the side walls & incredible surface detail. The inserts that go into the top & underside of the hull are
very cleverly built up to give real depth & detail & make it easy to pre paint & detail. Cockpit is obviously
tiny but has plenty of surface detail that benefits from careful painting & a spot of dry brushing.
The canopy has come in for some criticism for the thick framing ( this is 1-144 scale after all ) some folks
have gone down the route of mechanically thinning these down but i just painted the edges black upto
the exterior face. Works well enough for me ;-) . I started by using a Tamiya spray can AS-20 which is
very good but to my eye not quite tan enough (although the photography has bleached the colour a bit)
so i over coated using an old tin of Xtracolour FS 16495. The boarding ramp is a little sub assembly which
a good enough fit to not glue and can be interchanged with the ramp blanking piece. You only get one
set of decals for the ramp underside so i tried using the stickers and with a quick spray of Tamiya Matt
they do a suprisingly good job.

That looks awesome!
I shall certainly use your finish as a guide when it comes to re-painting my 1/72 Revell version when I get around to building it.
Best wishes

Thanks for the kind comments guys, to be honest the model kind of builds itself and weathering etc are a doddle because
the detail is so crisp. My main skill was getting the piping off the sprue in one piece (sometimes  )
Ive seen on amazon that after a post new years rise in prices that they have return to a more reasonable cost so this
may be a good time to buy if your tempted.
