Airfix 1/72 Angel Interceptor

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

Thanks chaps for the kind comments. With the decals all on I gave it a few coats of Tamiya Gloss X22 thinned 50% with Mr Leveling Thinner. Once the gloss coat was completely dry I made a thin pin wash from cheap oil paint and thinner. The colours were Raw and Burnt Umber with a bit of black and thinned it to the consistency of weak black coffee.

Then using a small brush I just added small amounts to the panel lines and I let capillary action take over. After I had done every line I dipped the tip of a cotton in the oil thinner just enough to draw up a small amount of thinner. Then using a piece of paper towel I dried off the cotton bud tip so its just damp and then its just a case of drawing the cotton bud across the panel lines from front to rear along the aircraft to take off the excess oil wash leaving the reminder in the panel line. I did this over the whole of the kit.

I then sprayed on a smoke and grime effect made from thinned Tamiya Black XF1 around the jet nozzle, gun, etc. With this done I then gave the kit a coat of matt varnish to seal everything and tone down the previous coats of gloss varnish. Then it was just a case of removing the canopy mask.

I think this photo gives you an idea how detailed the 1/72 decals are.

Luck for me that the canopy does a reasonable job of hiding the pilots face. Just my luck to have an Angel with a face of a bulldog chewing a wasp. Oh well that's life.

Excellent, excellent work on a Jerry Anderson fave   built this a few times myself but to nowhere near this standard.
I only have one left found accidentally by my son in a box of broken models ;-)

Just remember though that the Airfix kit is not 1/72, it's 1/87th (US/European HO gauge) based on the smallest Interceptor studio models.
Been modelling for years, still learning . . . .
Model kits are meant to be assembled . . . . . . . . . . eventually.

This was the second Interceptor I have built. The first was a present for my brother.
