Stand by for action! We are about to launch Stingray.

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

But if it's all new to you, this is the star of Gerry Anderson's 1964 predecessor to Thunderbirds - Stingray. You can find more about the show here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stingray_(TV_series)
and you may want to play this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhJCVqFvKCw.

I made my first kit of Stingray back in the mid-1960s when I saved up 6/- out of my pocket money, collected enough Lyons Maid Sea Jet iced lolly wrappers and sent off for the mail-order-only Airfix kit. I never painted it and it was eventually lost but gave me many hours of happy play. That kit is now one of the world's rarest so I don't expect to ever touch one again!

I do own the Comet vacform that was, apparently, copied from the Airfix kit but before building that, I decided to practice on a cheap Lee Models repop of an old kit moulded by Midori in Japan back in the 60s. It turned to not be a quick practice in the end. Here's how it looked straight out of the box back when I started it in 2008 and some of the larger 'adjustments' done to it before it got shelved in 2010.

I restarted on it earlier this year and you can see that work in my 'workbench' thread.

It's not the most accurate model of Stingray but since there were several filming miniatures that were all slightly different and I botched a few bits anyway, it looks like Stingray to me and I can live with it as it is.

Troy and phones would be happy to see their ship again.

It shows my age I remember when it was first launched on TV.

I also enjoyed the build of this on your WW thread David and it has turned out very nicely indeed. Alas, I am of a certain age as well and remember the show on TV. I also had a plastic toy Stingray at the time but cannot for the life of me remember who manufactured it - what was important back then was the fact that it floated in the bath!

Thanks, gents.

Back in 1964, my little brother and I would demand sandwiches for tea that day of the week and sit in front of our little black and white TV in the sitting room eyes glued to the screen. Supercar and Fireball XL5 had been good but we liked this even more. Then, of course, the next year brought the still enthralling Thunderbirds!

I remember Torchy. If you look at pictures of the puppet today, it looks rather scary.

Great work   remember Stingray well on the 'B&W Box' here in Sydney when I was 4, came on just before Thunderbirds.
Been modelling for years, still learning . . . .
Model kits are meant to be assembled . . . . . . . . . . eventually.

Thanks, FAAMAN. I love Gerry Anderson/Derek Meddings creations from the 60s and 70s. I have lots of kits in the stash and you have me thinking it's time to pull out another soon.
