Sputnik 1 - 60th Anniversary bit of fun

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

Sputnik 1 - 60th Anniversary bit of fun

Post by Eric Mc »

Not a kit but a lashed together model using a ping pong ball and assorted plastic card and stretched sprue. It works out at around 1/15 scale.

That's sweet. Now I want one.

All the best.

Very good. The pose with the stand angled from behind really adds to it.

The aerials are a bit bendy. I might replace them with something stiffer (ooh-err missus).

Excellent. The only thing that's missing are the "beeps".

Nice one, Eric, just shows what can be done with a few bits and some imagination - wire might be preferable for the antennae though as it is less likely to get bent.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Yes - I was thinking of getting hold of some wire for the antennae.

For your next project why not have a go at making the modified R-7 launch vehicle to go with it out of bog rolls and Fairy Liquid bottles, Eric?

I'll stick to the Airfix kit, I think - although it's not that accurate.
