1/72 TIE Intercptor - Fine Molds

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

Since the competition is over there, I can show now the whole build and completed model .

In-box

First I assembled the stand

Next I worked on cockpit. Assembled, it received first base color Neutral Grey (XF-53), followed by Badab Black wash (Citadel) and Astronomican Grey highlights (Citadel). After paints dried I finished it with Satin Varnish (Vallejo).

Side panels.

Next, pilot found his spot and cockpit got completed.

Visible from outside front panel was painted German Grey (XF-63), with Badab Black wash (Citadel) and drybrushed RLM 84 (Vallejo Model Air)

solar panel were removed from sprues and cleaned. first they received 2 coats of Alclad II Gloss Black Base, followed by the next day with 2 coats of Alclad II Prismatic Sapphire. Pictures are not fully showing the effect, but the panels' color is changing depending on the angle and light.

Clear parts after bath in Future and masking.

Interceptor's fuselage completed and sprayed Grey Primer Vallejo.

Wings' frames assembled and primed as well.

Having all that done, it was time for some painting. Since none of grey paints in my stash was looking right, by trial & error I came up with color which suits me. I used Flat White (XF-2) and Light Grey (XF-66).

I saved some more of this paint in the jar marked TIE Grey. Fuselage received TIE Grey coat, window frame & sensors were painted Neutral Grey (XF-53).

Original stand / base looked kinda empty and boring, so I added few elements from my spares bin...

Tie after Tie Grey and Black wash. Some may say it's too strong, but I wanted to achieve really worn appearance.

Little bit of fitting and sanding, and solar panels were mounted.

Finished fuselage

Completed model had it's debut at NOVA Model Classic 2012 on May 12th and finished on 3rd position.
Very very very exciting stuff.. Seems like great kit to work on.. I would love to gift it to my boy and he will enjoy for sure:)
