Re: The Scottish Airforce
As the majority of Scotland is hilly or mountains would a splinter pattern camouflage like they use in Scandinavia be a suitable starting point or even a modern digital type?
As for a/c markings how about a blue roundel with an inner white circle with a blue thistle?
For the Navy, smaller fast missile armed patrol craft might be more suited to protect their coastline.
On the subject of tartan does Scotland have a national Tartan or are they all separate clans tartans?

Thanks Thomas, I thought there must be, it's just you only see the more infamous tartans like the Stuart or Black Watch down here in the South.thomastmcc wrote:splash there has been several national tartans over the years ..

Never been in a group build before , but as a long time lover of Scotland, after several visits, this sound interesting!Old_Tonto wrote:A Caladonian A-10 would be very cool.Saxon wrote:If someone did, I would be in.Old_Tonto wrote:Is anyone going to suggest this as a possible what-if group build?
Perhaps a Breakaway States What If GB??
A Confederate States of America A-10 would be pretty cool...

Re: The Scottish Airforce
The Black Watch tartan might make a good camo scheme for low level GR aircraft. Not so sure about the Stuart one though!
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

Re: The Scottish Airforce
Hi thomas,
many of the guys on this forum are very good a producing their own decals and have some very impressive software. I have only a very limited knowledge so will tell you what I do. First, get your images. I went onto Wikipedia to look for Roundels: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roundels;
Obviously, there are no Scottish ones so I took the next best thing which I thought was the Greek Airforce roundel. Right click on the image and copy it. Then open a new file in Microsoft Word. Paste the image in and re-size it to what scale(s) you think you need. Make several copies for as many decals in that size, then re-size one of them again and copy for bigger one. Keep going until you have all the sizes you need (I'm thinking 1/72, 1/48, 1/32, 1/24). Now back to Wikipedia for the Saltire image for the tail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saltire;
Repeat the process.
I soon had this sheet:
I realised afterward that I will have to split the wording onto a separate sheet to print on clear decal paper and the images onto white decal paper.
I will print both onto paper first and cut them out to check the sizes before commiting them to print on expensive decal paper.
hope that helps a little bit.
cheers
Al.

Would the SAF have enough aircraft to put all those decals on, Al?

I can never find the spray can of tartan paint, the shop owner keeps it on the shelf behind the ready-made camouflage paint.thomastmcc wrote: nah just get some tartan paint...

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Re: The Scottish Airforce
Interesting idea for an SB - the whiffery potential is endless - though I'd stipulate a back story must be told - andit doesn't have to be modern either.
Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...
