403 Squadron F-22 D-Day 75th Anniversary

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

403 Squadron F-22 D-Day 75th Anniversary

Post by broadside »

What can I say about this kit other than "yuk"! It's the Kitech 1/72 and all I could think of was to whif it.

The idea came from a print I have of two 403 Spitfires over Normandy. The print is one that was used on collectors cards issued by a well known cigar company.

I tried tinting the canopy using an unstirred tin of dark earth. Perhaps I should have concentrated on getting it fitted better.

That looks very smart! Far better then the grey, grey and more grey of modern jets!

That 'yuk' kit has come out pretty damn well in those markings!
Please critique my posts honestly i.e. say what you think so I can learn and improve...

I'd say you've de-yucked that rather nicely ;-)

Very good. The stripes really set it off.
So many models, so little time.

This has turned out to be prophetic! The CAF don't have an F-22 in D-Day colours, but the RAF has painted a Typhoon in partial D-Day livery -- the stripes on the wings and body (the latter look a bit odd since the wings blend into the rear fuse) and squadron codes with small type C roundels on the forward fuselage. I do hope someone brings out a decal sheet because this is the best looking Typhoon scheme to date.

Oh, and somewhat belatedly, the F-22 build looks great, whether it's a Kitech kit or not (have had very mixed results with that manufacturer).

Kitech in my experience are best used as a source of cheap spares.
But that is a nice Raptor.
I wish, that I knew what was doing!

That's really good!
I've not had any experience of kits from this manufacturer, but whatever the starting quality, the finished article is high quality in my book :-D
Best wishes
