Hawker Hurricane IIe

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

Hawker Hurricane IIe

Post by Chuck E »

I like looking at how we could make old aircraft more effective in their various roles and thought of this idea. The Russian Air Force of WWII received quite a lot of Hurricanes and modified them in a similar way.

Here I have modified a Hurricane for desert use. I've added 4 x 0.5 heavy machine guns and reduced the 20mm cannon armament to two. The plan would be that each set of guns could be used separately or together. I think this would have given the Hurri a really heavy punch and rate of fire.

The idea of the modified camouflage scheme is along the lines of a white Hurricane with some upper surface camo. More along the lines of the FAA. Azure blue was a really effective camo for the Med, so I've extended it well up the sides and fin. The view from below and alongside shows only blue. From above all desert camo. I quite like it. Just a bit of fun. That's Xtracolour Azure Blue, though I feel it may be a bit light.

Some thought went into the weaponry and it makes good sense to me.
Love the scheme. Nice base too.
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....

That looks very convincing (maybe a bit too clean).

I could dirty it up a bit. Light weathering. It's supposed to be just out of the desert paint shop and just ready to try out, but as it's a used airframe, a bit of weathering should be OK. I may have to just weather the camo bit. Looking at the photos, I may change the canopy too. The Academy canopy is too thin. I may have a vac-form one somewhere.

I've applied the decals and then painted over them to give the modified look.
