Christmas Spitfire, Royal Scottish AF, 1945, Airfix 1/72

From Apollo and Soyuz, to Gerry Anderson, Irwin Allen, Star Wars and Trek to Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica and those strange, doe-eyed Japanese school girls...to any model kits you can think of, that only exists in imagination.

Christmas Spitfire, Royal Scottish AF, 1945, Airfix 1/72

Post by IvanV22 »

For a couple of years ago, Motley hade a build called a Christmas Spitfire,
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=2508
this build has been in my head for 2 years now… Just hope I haven’t bitten off more than I can chew…

It was on D Day that disaster struck, a hurricane suddenly surprised the allied fleet and left only half of the troops on the Normandy shores. The troops that made it a shore were captured by the waiting German forces, the rest of the allied forces tried to get back to the UK, but were scattered all over Europe. To make the matter worse heavy fog rolled into the channel. In cover of the fog the Germen forces succeeded in invading southern England. The British Home guard tried to put up resistance, but without the RAF ground by the fog…. When the fog lifted it was too late. By the middle of December the Germen forces had mover through England and where now just outside Hadrian’s wall, where they halted for reinforcements.
One the other side the remaining allied forces with the Highlands in front where digging inn for a last stand under the banner of the New Queen of Scotland.
Meanwhile in a secret locating in the Norwegian mountains a man in a red suit was reading his mail… Wilfred , one of the Elf’s came in with a letter, Santa, here a long letter from Lucy, Peter and Susan, They’ve fled from London and are now staying a a little farm outside Appelcross. They have written that they have been behaving themselves all year and Lucy has even been eating all her Black pudding! All they ask for is a Spitfire so there dad can help fight the Germans….
Father Christmas replies, we gave the British a Spitfire last year, that didn’t help a lot! But Wilfred reply’s, but Santa that was only one. You know the toy Spitfire we are making, cant we enlarge it and maybe send it through the duplicator? Lets say about 500 Spitfires, and please Santa, let me put some Christmas magic it them this time…PLEASE? ……and Santa, you can take the first test flight!!

I wonder if they could also make a Jolly Mosquito or a typhoon...

Strange, thought I had commented before.

Very nice story, Ivan. And Santa looks good.

Waiting for more. :)
Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...

It took several coats of primer & white to cover that blue plastic!
Now I\m ready to start masking, and I don’t think you’ll be surprised to hear that it’s going to be a red and white camo job.

Maybe next year, but Santa’s sledge is mostly red and white, and now I am not taking about Father Christmas or the REAL Santa - The Norwegian ”jule nissen ” but my build is based on the Hollywood Santa Claus ! And red & white is a great camo, how many times has Santa been shoot down, in two great wars.. ;-)

Gave the Spitfire 2 thin coats of red yesterday and some more coats today, I think I\m beginning to be satisfied with the colour. This time I am masking with paper tape, to avoid the bleeding I encountered the last time I tried this (my Roden Albatross) , I used some Future clear around the tape masks, hope it helps…
Maybe I’ll be unmasking tomorrow, remember its still 19 days to Christmas Eve!

Johnny Red was a comic book character from the 70's. I built the Hurricane last year for the Blitz build and plan on doing his Mosquito sometime soon.
