Re: Sign-up and Chat
Bruce,
I have a 1/144th Eduard Me262 which will be in the background of my SMW2012 box art build. If it would be OK, I could build it on this thread and kill 2 birds with 1 stone (but there were 2 kits in the box, so I may do 2 Schwalbe! One wheels up for the box art build, and the second wheels down for this one at the same time).
What say you, o GBL?
regards,
Martin

Re: Sign-up and Chat
The rules, basically, are to build anything and everything, provided it's in 1/144 scale.
The Eduard 1/144 262's are rather pleasant little birds. The challenge arrives with the mottle!

Bruce

Okay...so John was ahead of me with the game in hand and caught me on the hop, as it were.
To be honest, I fair panicked when I saw the 1/144 stuff appear on the Forum and only relaxed when I checked my calendar.
Granted, kick-off is a while away yet, but there's no harm in getting all warmed up.
You might've noticed that I haven't yet posted any previous 1/144 builds in the Previously Built Gallery, but that's because I didn't know which ones to stick up there.
Regulars to the Forum will know that I have a soft spot for 1/144, essentially because I lack the hangars of display space some of you seem to have. I also like to have sets of things and 1/144 is ideal for this. as a consequence, I have a large set of F-14 Tomcats and Hawker Hunters and they most certainly do not take up too much space.
Old Airfix 1/144's used to be restricted to the Saturn and Vostock rockets and the Skykings series.
Today, all sorts of companies are getting in on the act and there's a lot of quality tiny kit out there. Granted, the old stuff can still catch out the unwary, but the info is out as to what to avoid and what to grab with both han...er...fingers.
As with most modelling, aircraft dominate.
New Revell, Platz, Eduard and Sweet are the market leaders, in terms of quality...with Dragon and Trumpeter running a close second and Attack are moving up the rankings. Amodel have grabbed the scale with both hands and produce a range of subjects previously unkitted in any scale. Minicraft does okay for range, but kits are often mixed with very, very old stuff from LS and Arii and Chinese rip-offs from Crown.
For the more specialised stuff, go and check out Hobby Link Japan for the range of obscure Japanese manufacturers and, if you've got plenty of dosh, then resin Wolfpack, Anigrand and Miniwings are the way to go. F-Resin do a marvellous range of airliner-types.
Look further and there are more garage-type manufacturers, such as Oz Mods.
At the other end of the scale, there are pre-built/painted Gashopon from Japan, with quite collectable ranges of 1/144 aircraft. Usually, there is a better kit alternative to many subjects, but where else are you to get a 1/144 V-22 Osprey?
Besides aircraft, 1/144 was/is popular for the Saturn V rockets and their ilk, alongside Space Shuttles and other assorted hardware. Revell's MIR space station and their ISS are quite spectacular builds. Science Fiction is now increasingly catered for, with kits and Gashopon-type pre-built and painted models for you to collect.
Whilst there aren't that many 1/144 ships, there's a decent selection of 1/144 submarines to lob your 1/144 Liberators and Catalina at and, if you've got yourself a 1/144 Globemaster, you can now get AFV's to load it up with.
Don't forget, if you're looking for stuff that might interest you, you should also look at 'N' Guage stuff, as this is the closest to 1/144 that the railways get and supplies a whole load of appropriately tiddly figures and diorama possibilities.
So...let's prepare and see who else will be drawn over to the darkside of the smaller scale/

Bruce

Re: Sign-up and Chat
Count me in too, in the stash i currently have a Revell Tornado and decals to do a Gulf War 617 Bird which fits my 617 project to and if i have a clear work space i may bring out my C-17 Globemaster out to play too, even bought a nice pair of Warriors to go in the back of it

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I picked up one of these at Huddersfield and will be building it for this.
In fact, that weekend is my birthday and I've a few days off work so I may be able to semi-blitz it...

I am setting on the Otaki/Revell C-5A Galaxy with the new DRAW Decals and the Eduard Me262 dual kit.
The C-5 was stripped down to be rescued and appears to be all there except one nose gear door.
The Me's, well, they look very tasty.

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I have only 2 1/44 kits , 1 being the Airfix Big Orange Jumbo and the other a B-Wing Fighter from Star Wars . Think I will opt for the easy way out and do the B-Wing .
Re: Sign-up and Chat
I love the old Braniff Airlines colors, Shane. They were always painted like there was a paint sale at the local DIY center.

Re: Sign-up and Chat
I'm in. I picked up Revells A-10 and Tornado GR.1 last weekend and a Revell Hunter today. I'll try to get all three done.
The A-10 is a 2-tone grey scheme, so I may go for a green/green/grey European scheme instead.
As I've already build the Hunter in RAF colours and the Swiss camo is the same, I might well look for an 'interesting' scheme to apply.

I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....
