Ians Tiny Trio - Complete
Ians Tiny Trio - Complete
As the title suggests, I am going to try to complete 3 kits in this GB.
I have a Hunter FGA.9, a Tornado GR.1 and an A-10A - all from Revell.
Sprues
I've previously built a Hunter and 4 German Tornadoes. The British Tornado comes with 2 sprues of weaponry for the GR.1 version.
The A-10 is new to me and from the reviews I've read on the interweb it's not in the same league as the other 2. Still, never mind.
First job was to print off the correct camo schemes that I'll be using. These were at Don Color - it's a very useful site if you've never visited.
I spent a couple of hours on them last night and got this far!
I've also had an hour this morning after doing the ironing and the Hunter and A-10 are together and filled. The Tornado rear end is together (the wings will slot into place after painting and decaling) and I am working on the tub.
So a good start on all 3.

Three smart looking kits. I'm starting to get a hankerin for a 1/144 build. To many unfinished builds on bench, must resist....

Re: Ians Tiny Trio
Very good start. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing the completed hunter.

Good start, Ian.
I'll assume you learned a paint lesson on your previous Hunter that you won't be repeating?
The A-10 has it's faults, but it's way, waaaay better than the more recent Dragon kits, which are overly engineered and have lousy fit.

(The decals were nice enough).
What decals will you be using?

Bruce

Can I assume you are asking after seeing the profile I printed?MerlinJones wrote:What decals will you be using?
I am torn. I have some Honimaru left over from some Sweet Zeroes which I think would look nice on the A-10. The other option I am thinking is a 'snow hog' scheme used when based in cold locations - it's a white/grey/dark green scheme that matches the European green/green/grey scheme in layout. If I go for this I will be using the 1 set of the kit decals. I may even use the Honimaru on this scheme.
Haven't decided yet. Plenty of time to work it out while I build and paint the fuel tanks, bombs, missiles and jamming pod.
And no, I won't be using a wash on this Hunter

Ah...no, the wash was/is fine. The paint job is very, very nice.Ian wrote:...And no, I won't be using a wash on this Hunter
It's that there is no rear frame on the canopy;

Re: Ians Tiny Trio
@Ian, Its not that I'm afraid of these tiny beauties on the contrary I love them. My problem is that I have so much unfinished plastic on my bench right now I can't stand the thought of starting another project till I finish some of the other stuff. No matter how much I may want to. I gotta draw the line somewhere.

Re: Ians Tiny Trio
Ian, will thr A-10 be in the greys or Euro 1 scheme?
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale
Re: Ians Tiny Trio
I can't see how you cannot finish one of these beauteous little kits, Dirk.Dirkpitt289 wrote:@Ian, Its not that I'm afraid of these tiny beauties on the contrary I love them. Re: Ians Tiny Trio
@ Bruce; Either can I yet it happens. It took me almost 4 or 5 months to complete my OD B-29. The B-17 and the B-24 Assembly ship I started at the very same time remain unfinished to this day. They sit on one of the storage boxes on my bench looking up at me all forlorn and making me feel bad daily

Pah! Normal service, indeed. This is normal service for me. Check my strap-line - full time modeller, part time poster.
Anyway, Cheeky, the current state of play is this
A-10 - Model built. White on. Green on. Grey to go on. Weapons to go on. Decals to go on.
Hunter - Uppers done. Lowers need another coat. Decals to go on.
Tornado - Grey on. Green to go on. Decals to go on.
I expect to post some pics on Monday or Tuesday.
