Tim's Teeny Tiny Tomcat **Finished**
I wasn't going to take part in this GB but after seeing some of the completed builds and doing some more research I went and bought this yesterday.
The parts are well moulded with some nice surface detail.
The decal sheet is impressive too although I'm not sure how I'll get on decalling the missiles.
I'll be using the markings of VF-101 'Grim Reapers'.
So far I've given the fins a couple of coats of black paint. Hopefully I should be able to get more done over the weekend.

The kits a beauty and the decals are icing on the rather nice cake!
Well worth the effort, Tim.

I'll be watching this one with interest. I am building the Revell F14a for this build and have found it excellent so far. Its nearly done, just a few decals to go :-)

Good job I didn't specify which weekend.TimJ wrote:Hopefully I should be able to get more done over the weekend.
Anyway, I made a bit more progress yesterday and the interior is nerly finished.
I had some trouble with the diddy decals as they didn't want to stay on the plastic but a coat or two of Klear soon sorted that out.

Re: Tim's Teeny Tiny Tomcat
Some more progress today, the forward fuselage has been closed up. The interior was a tight fit but it went together OK.
I've also painted the wings and part of the rear fuselage ready to close it up tomorrow.
I should have the airframe assembled tomorrow.

More progress today. I closed up the rear fuselage, which needed a few clamps to hold it together.
When the glue had dried I added the forward fuselage.
The wings are quite stiff and only move if I move both at once, which may be something to do with them being painted first.

Re: Tim's Teeny Tiny Tomcat
With a couple of days to go I thought I'd better get some work done on the Tomcat so it was out with the paintbrush. The upper and lower surfaces have both had a couple of coats and the u/c doors and missiles have been painted too.
I probably won't be finished tomorrow but I shouldn't be far off.

Re: Tim's Teeny Tiny Tomcat
I painted the black areas this morning the after a couple of coats of Klear I spent the next couple of hours decalling. The canopy and u/c legs have also been fitted.
Decalling the missiles is rather fiddly. So far I've done one Phoenix, which had 5 decals.
The large one around the nose kept trying to unroll so I needed some Klear to help it stay in place.
This one might just get in under the wire.

Re: Tim's Teeny Tiny Tomcat
The wire might need to bend a bit as it still isn't quite finished. The fins and wheels have been added and the rest of the AIM-54s have been decalled.
If I though decalling the missiles was fiddly the u/c doors were even more so. I got them on eventually but overdid the red edges and now have a couple of red doors.

It's looking good, you must be on short finals to land.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Yes, there's not a lot left to do to finish it off.
