If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

I will take some more photos for you. It is a huge kit! The only problem, was I could not get the hemp colour in an enamel down here ( I had to order 6 jars of pain as the hobby shop would not order just one!) so I used a Tamiya Desert Yellow on her. The paint seems to dry in a weathered pattern that looks great. I have to learn how to do a wash to bring out the panel lines!
Cheers

I spy a Bristol Bloodhound! Where did you find the kit?

I think it looks great as it is so it looks like you had a lucky escape from buying 6 pointless jarsIt is a huge kit! The weapons bay, normally I close them up, but for some reason I did this one LOL!
The decals for this kit were awful! The smaller ones were all stuck together and you had to cut them apart separately, and the all had that extra film around them that I can't get rid of.....
But anyway, a nice fitting kit and certainly awesome when put together!

Re: Airforce in 1/72
Thanks for posting all the posts, what a great kit! You've done a really good job. I see what you mean about the weathered look of the yellow paint, it does give it a nice "used" look, i think giving it a wash and making the underside weathered would really tie it all in together really nicely.
Good decision to leave the bomb bay doors open, it really shows off the potential bite the plane had. Were the arms in the bomb bay part of the kit or are they extras? and did you tint the cockpit windows?

Re: Airforce in 1/72
The kit came with alot of armaments for the bay, there are several versions you can build including the recon version. Yes I tinted the windows with the Tamiya clear orange then ran a thin pen around the window outlines to give it some distinction. Unfourtunetly when I put the fuselage halves together some of the windows hadn't glued properly so I had to use the white glue to remake them. I then very carefully painted them a gloss coal black. Most of the pics of the Nimrod I have seen have heavily tinted windows on the fuselage so I felt comfortable doing that.
The version I have done came to Aussie to part in exercises in 1988, but I added the "Maid" decal as a bit of poetic license ( I liked the decal ).
I just got the Heller Javelin in 1/72 scale, so I now have all the British made aircraft now.
Will have to think seriously about the Phantom and the Typhoon as they are really not fully " British" aircraft

Seal it first with clear acrylics like Future, making sure to do several coates and that it dries at least 24 hours.darkhorse wrote:Can anyone tell me how to put a wash over Tamiya paint?
Tamiya paints hate all other forms of model stuff and usually react quite badly to them.
