Ratch's Diecast Collection

Post by Ratch »

I hope it's OK to post these here. Some of you may know that Corgi are a part of my history. I worked at Mettoy where Corgi originated. My dad worked there too (as did his dad) and Corgi cars were expendable toys in my childhood. If it broke, or if I just wanted another, dad would get me one. I thought nothing of it - I now realise I had a privileged childhood. Every now and then I try to replace something I used to have, at not a too expensive price. In this thread I shall post my growing collection.
One of the oldest I remember having was the Vanwall I recently acquired, very play-worn but less than a fiver delivered.

A much newer issue.

E. M. Rogers are a local transport company. They started in farm buildings in my village and moved into premises next door to the Mettoy Centre on Lodge Farm Industrial Estate. The farm was developed into residential dwellings. When Corgi brought this out I just had to have one. Quite expensive but a must have for me.

I bought a few of the Trackside series when I was contemplating rebuilding my model railway.

This is probably my oldest Corgi. I liberated it from the sample stockroom at Harlestone Road before the factory closed. Someone has written '1967' on the box (presumably when it was first made).

A collector told me 30 years ago that it was worth over £100.00  I wonder what its worth now

Of course I had the original gold one when it was first issued, but as they go for silly money I'll have to put up with this one.
My dad says that they invited someone from Aston Martin to the factory and while he was given the tour, the development guys were busy measuring up his DB5

I have two of these. The first C41 1902 State Landau – The Queen’s Silver Jubilee 1977 was a presentation to all employees. I had just joined Mettoy full time as the Inflating Department Foreman. Its in rather poor condition now because I'd put it on display, rather than keep it in its box.

I bought this second C41 State Landau Set to replace the first.

This sort of thing always fascinated me. My uncle had books on road transport and I can remember copy-drawing the photographs.

When I first had this, no-one at my school had heard of the Green Hornet (the Batman episode featuring him had not aired in the UK). Kato (Bruce Lee) was unheard of too.
