Welcome to the 'Early Jets' GB.

This is a continuation of the initial Early Jets thread from GB Chat.

Here sign-up for the 'Early Jets' GB, state your entry, chat with others who are joining the GB.

The GB was proposed to include only first generation jets, from 1939 to 1949, jets that really flew in these ten years.
Your GB Leader is Kruaxi, who will post any additional details here shortly ....

I'm in with an Airfix MiG-15.

I believe the consensus was that the subject represented should also fall within the time period so I'll not be doing the 1970s Bulgarian one or the Korean War one, but the Soviet NMF bird.

I am in with a 1/72 Italeri Iljushin Il-28 'Beagle'. Classic cold war era bomber in the colours of the East German Air Force. NMF :ha:

The kit looks a bit rough & ready, it has the feel of an Eastern European or Russian kit about it but it's the only game in town apart from the ancient Airfix kit.

There are a lot of parts but many are for the bomb bay which I will have closed so that should save some time.

Brews - I would go for the Arado if it was me.

I'm in. Was going to go with a Canberra but plans may change nearer the start time so as they say, watch this space.

All the best.

From Wikipedia:-
The Republic F-84 Thunderjet was an American turbojet fighter-bomber aircraft. Originating as a 1944 United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) proposal for a "day fighter", the F-84 flew in 1946. Although it entered service in 1947

Going by the timeline for the first proposal AND first introduced I'd say the F84 fits with the criteria in all it's non swept wing incarnations.

All the best.

I think we need should stick to when the specific variant flew else we could have late mark Canberras and Meteors when only the earliest marks really comply. There is not point trying to shoe horn subjects in just so you can take part in a GB because then it is no longer a themed GB. If someone really wants to build an a/c that first flew in 1950 then there is nothign to stop them building in the regular Aircraft section.

As far as the Canberra is concerned, only the prototype flew before the end of '49 which does limit the options somewhat.

I'll probably go with an Me262 just to be on the safe side.

Edit: Hobbyboss and Academy offer F-84E decals OOB. Brilliant. I will look for an Academy for the E decals to use on the Rareplanes!
But those markings are for Korean War era service and thus outside the GB range unless it can be shown they were applied before the end of 1949.

I'm in with the De Havilland Vampire Mk 5 ( 1/72 Revell )
I started this kit way back when I got back into modelling in the mid 90's, however only the cockpit interior has been painted ( the wrong colour so I'll have to do it again anyway ) , trust everyone is comfortable with this ?
