Barry's XB-43 Anigrand 1/72 resin FINISHED
Where to start: Notice duplicate nose gear doors and main l/g doors and wheels. Also a handful of misc. parts in the lower right corner that seem to come from some unknown 1/144 kit. The exhaust nozzles (2 + extra) in the center of the display turned out to be too large and the wrong shape...the correct ones are the two little ones in the misc. pile. See the two rectangular things between the cockpit floor and nose gear? They seem to be inserts for the air intakes, but closer examination shows them to be too wide and surplus to needs in any case. There are the usual bubble holes to fill on the edges of things and one wing is slightly warped. And, lastly, the vertical stab is 12-15mm too short. Not too many surface blebs this time though .

Interesting selection of parts. As far as I know, the 1/72 kits don't normally come with extras.

paint and install cockpit
Intake trunking made from rolled paper
in place
glue fuselage halves together and start to deal with surface blemishes. It took a bit of nose weight, but there was more than enough room for it.

Barry, I just want to thank you for these builds, I do so much enjoy seeing these 'not run of the mill' subjects built with your skill and attention. I'm sure there's a useful tip or technique you share in each of your builds. Bravo.
Cheers

Echo that !! I've been back several times to look at your 'prior builds' ... and I don't even like jets ...

Re: Barry's XB-43 Anigrand 1/72 resin
It has been an aggravating week.
The wings showed a backward curving which I didn't notice when I opened the kit. I don't know how I could have induced that, yet there it was and I could just see it going from bad to worse if I tried to straighten it out. Luckily, I had an unbuilt XB-42 vacuform in the cupboard, so I snagged the wings from that. No pinholes, no mold release agent, no warping...just a little panel line scribing and problem solved, sort of. The airfoil at the wing root is different from that on the fuselage, so some carving will be necessary.
Then, from this photo, I deduced that the kit tail was grossly undersized
Being unable to find any piece of a kit that I could adapt, I had to carve a new one from plastic card.
So here we are now with filler at the base of the tail to be sanded and wing root profiles to to be sorted.

Wonderful subject! Future in past tense
Great job with the Anigrand half-finished

I'm hoping you didn't pay the full price for this.

Nope, I got it and a XB-42 as payment for building their 1/144 C-133 (which is a very nice kit). I've already checked....the wings in the XB-42 kit are fine.
