Jim's Easy Me *** Finished ***
Hi all,
Well I really need to finish a GB, so I'll try a Hobby Boss Easy Assembly Authentic Me 262A-1a
Hopefully I won't get bogged down in it
Cheers
Jim

Which paint scheme will you be doing? I like the second one from Witzmanm's aircraft.

I can't see if the bottom of the cockpit tub has detail on it (the Revell kit does), but if so, then you can open up the wheel wells. You then need to sort out your u/c attachments - nothing that you aren't capable of.
While I don't doubt that Jim is capable of it, as he tends to build wheels up I'm not sure he'll take you up on it.
Jim,
Nice kit! I started one of these a couple of years ago, but it stalled (for no particular reason that I can remember). I may have thrown it out, now. The decals are good, and there's lots of useful spare bits.
regards,
Martin
Re: Jim's Easy Me
No prop arc on this one Jim. Should be a piece of cake.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

@Brews, she'll be wheels up and blasting through the sky, after those Yankee vermots. It doesn't have any detail on the cockpit tub, unlike the Revell one, but has the undercarriage bays closed in
@Jeff No prop is a nice change, I do get sick of filling the prop holes in spinners, the prop blurs are easy to make.
@Ian Squiggles, yum yum: http://www.griffins.co.nz/by-name/squiggles;
@Dirk I've not settled on a scheme yet... that second one is nice all right.
@Martin I do like these HB kits, got a few and the kids have had a ball with them, this'll be the first one I've done, and am looking forward to it.
Hopefully get a chance to do something to it over Easter.
Cheers

Having been labeled as an "Easy" build, I have to ask is this done yet? We need pictures my friend even if its of the box collecting dust on your bench.

In the pile of 262's on my chest of drawers, don't ask about baby bottles or the bottle of Teachers.... though a teat on the Teachers maybe be an idea

Re: Jim's Easy Me
Got it out of the box today, and had a couple of hours. I'm mighty impressed with the plastic..
The one piece cockpit with moulded on straps, no joystick though.
One piece moulded upper fuselage..
The tail fin is translucent at the edge it's so thin, with a seperation at the top of the rudder and fin..
Nose..
Moulded dished area for the guns, I'll drill those out. The panel lines seem heavier on the top of the fuselage than the sides, and a couple of lines at the nose seem to extended too far intot he next panel. I think they have missed the panel line for the hinged gun access panels.
Underside one piece..
Gun ejector ports, and the big hex holes are for the rockets or tanks.
Canopy..
clips in and from a quick glance looks like it fits ok.
Undercarriage doors..
Wow, very thin edges, and some face detail. The main wheel door halves have a step and lip so they can sit closed flush. Though closed undercarriage isn't an option on the instructions.
So after drooling over the plastic, I dug up a pilot..
he's one of those Revell Luftwaffe crew pilots, looks a bit undersized, and needs about 4mm glued to his bum so he can see over the cowling.
Stretched some sprue and jammed them into the hex holes, lashings of extra thin so hopefully they'll fill the hex shapes.
Overall I like the look of it.
Cheers

I'm jealous. That looks like it's going to be a dream.
I'm a mostly full-time modeller put a part-time poster....
Re: Jim's Easy Me
Jim,
Nicely detailed. HB sometimes need a little fettling between top and bottom fuse part to get a good fit, but nothing you're not well used to.
regards,
Martin

Re: Jim's Easy Me
Martin, yes I see there is a bit of gappage in the fuselage halves. I've removed the big pins for the fuselage halves, hopefuly help the fit, and to make it easier dry fitting, they are a bit tight to pull apart again
Got the undercart doors on, a very good fit in the up position..,
a bit of sprue sections to hold them levelish. The nose door, I just replaced with a section of flat tag form the sprue, and have jammed some plasticard to fill the slots where the doors fit in opened.
The square hole is for the mount...
a large piece of sprue cemented in and then a hole drilled and square filed fo the mount to slide into. Capped the top with card to stop the mount passing rgith through.
Gun apertures..
drillied the hollows out, and then cut some small sections of stretched plastic tube and cement in as canon muzzles. Just had to copy Martin's idea there
Cheers

Re: Jim's Easy Me
This looks like a nice kit Jim, hex holes aside. Quick build? would probably still take me 3 months
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.
