Re: Jim's Easy Me
Ha ha yes I know what you mean about quick build..
Got the fuselage cemented together, and with a little of attention to the mating surfaces and a bit of dry fitting, and a bigger clamp, we're got a good joint.
A bit of a sand and some correction fluid should sort it out I think.
Cheers

Jim,
Looks like an excellent fit to me. It can be a bit of a bear if you're not careful.
regards,
Martin

Impressive looking kit Jim. I think I may try to sneak one or two of these past the Mrs.

Re: Jim's Easy Me
Right, slacker reporting in, school holidays here, and the time has just whizzzed by. Back to school Monday https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-iEID ... 0/clap.gif;
Got the fuselage seam cleaned up today, and the engine nacelles assembled and on.
The the onion and cucumber are a tight fit in the nacelle halves. Needed a little fettling to get them to sit flush against the wing. There is abit of tidy up at the front, and the rear of the wing.
Tailplanes just fell on, are a marvellous fit. and amazing detail, I gave then a light sand, and noticed they have moulded rib in the surface of the tailplanes, it really fine, and I think would disappear under paint, amazing.
I'm falling for these easy kits...
Cheers

Very nice Jim.
I can highly recommend the Hobby boss F86 Sabre as a similarly enjoyable build.
Cheers

Re: Jim's Easy Me
Ah yes your Sabre, I remember that build, a colourful subject all right.
Well got the canopy on last night, and masked, a spritz of dark grey primer and a couple of gaps around the edges of the canopy to fill.
So out with the Tamiya putty, thinned with some Tamiya lacquer thinner.
I'll give it a clean up and squirt a bit of primer on to check.
Cheers

Good luck with the result Jim. I have found to my anguish that spraying primer onto a badly fitting canopy can result in the "pilot sneezed" effect:Jagewa wrote:

Ah yes, that did cross my mind, just another tension filled unmasking
Did you get that phantom canopy sorted out?
Cheers

Re: Jim's Easy Me
Be looking forward to seeing it finished Chip, you must have a good collection of Phantoms now, any chance of a group shot sometime?
Well got the canopy sorted and used micromesh to remove some dust greeblies. Finally decided on a scheme, I've been fluffin about trying to decide, and decided to go RLM 74/75/76, so sat down this afternoon and mixed some colours up from the Tamiya's I have. Then got a chance to spray it tonight..
[
Mostly freehand with a couple of strips of masking tape and some post-it notes, for the hard edges.
Hopefully decals tomorrow..
Cheers

Jim,
That's an absolutely fantastic finish! Well impressed and a little jealous. I really must get an airbrush for Lufty camouflage.
regards,
Martin
