Re: IL-28 Beagle, by Trumpeter
It's been over a week, but I've not given up on this - just got waylaid again....
Very mindful of the deadline, and not having been able to get any airbrushing practice in... I'm sticking to what I know for this build, and will now be brush-painting.
Got the interior bits and bobs done yesterday - I've made some instrument panels and from plasticine, and cut a nav-chart table from the lid of a butter tub - and today have put the first coat of light blue on the underside - U/C and canopy parts are drying as I type.
I have some pics to upload, but Tinypic is playing silly-buggers at the moment - will try again in a bit.

Re: IL-28 Beagle, by Trumpeter
Yay! - Tinypic now accepting uploads
This was taken just before I fitted the extras into the Nav-man's office - Light blue underside, the scratched extras, and some doors/hatches etc drying.
The plasticine control panels and chart table, added into the nose.
Table is a bit oversized - but once the glasshouse is fitted it shouldn't be so obvious.
Second coat of blue tomorrow, and first green coat on the uppers - U/C and other peripherals are painted and ready to just glue in place.
So far.... I have all weekend free (fingers crossed), so should just about make the deadline.

That interior looks real smart. Good job.
I will be glad to see the back of my Beagle.

Thanks O_T
Back in my teens, my mates used to rip the mick because I was regularly doing conversions etc out of plasticine.
Found this interesting IL-28 vid on Youtube - Paratroopers ridng in the bomb bay, from about 1:15 onwards.
A Czech paratroop altitude record.... according to the comments.

And thanks to the vid, looks like I need a ladder in that rear hatch if I'm gonna open it.

Re: IL-28 Beagle, by Trumpeter
Into the final day, and it's gonna be close....
I got the airframe painted yesterday, and a coat of Klear before bed - another coat of Klear this morning, and I've been busy elsewhere since then....
Anyhoo - I'm ready to start decaling next, and hopefully I've got the rest of the day, and evening to myself - so a concerted effort, and I might just make it in time.
This is how things are right now:
Decals next, then glassware and all the door panels.
I'm hoping to get final touch-ups and maybe a panel wash done in time to get the final flat-coat on before bedtime tonight.
Busy time ahead, so there'll be no more pics until I either finish, or declare a DNF....

Re: IL-28 Beagle, by Trumpeter
Finally done - Or at least, as 'done' as it's gonna be for tonight. (It's fast approaching 2am here, and I need some sleep)
Didn't have time for a panel-wash, and flat-coat - so I s'pose it'll have to be 'factory fresh' (may do some weathering later in the week)
The colours have come out looking a bit funky, with the indoor tungsten light (I didn't wanna use flash)
Main upper colour used was Hu150 (forest green) - Undersides are Hu65 lightened with some very light grey.
The last picture is most representative of the actual colours.
I'll get a shot in daylight tomorrow
Only things I added were the ladder on the rear hatch, and a few plasticine bits'n'bobs to busy-up the navigator's office.
Kit comes with optional wingtip tanks, two types of rear turret, take-off booster rockets, and 3 choices of bombload - I went for the intermediate bombload in the end, 4 x 250kg

Superb. Your brush work looks excellent.
I can't quite picture where the engine are in the nacelles as the undercarriage bay takes up a lot of room. I guess the exhaust was routed over the top of them?

Re: IL-28 Beagle, by Trumpeter **FINISHED**
Thanks very much everyone
When I looked them up, the engines (Klimov VK-1) turned out to be surprisingly small (or at least, to me they did) - They're the same engines used in the MiG-15 and MiG-17 - and are only 2600mm long, which works out at a scale 36mm - On measuring the model, there's only 30mm of nacelle ahead of the wheel bay, but about 40mm behind it.
It does appear that the starter was ahead of the bay though - These parts:
.....are positioned just ahead of the bays, and the centre of that little rotor thing is just high enough for a shaft from it to pass above the u/c bay.
And all that weight behind the wheels, might explain why there's a lot of fuselage ahead of the wheels and wings.
The model still needed weight to prevent a tail-sitter though - there are 6 dead AG13 button cells, and a wodge of plasticine between cockpit and bomb-bay.
That was something I was wondering myself during the build James... It seems they must have been behind the wheel bays.JamesPerrin wrote: I can't quite picture where the engine are in the nacelles as the undercarriage bay takes up a lot of room. I guess the exhaust was routed over the top of them?

Very cool result Carlos. All that work in the nav station has paid off.
Can you get a close up image of the interior please?
Love the green too.

Yep, no probs:Old_Tonto wrote: Can you get a close up image of the interior please?
Here's a few different angles - it's difficult to get a single shot showing more than one part of the interior, due to the open canopy and hatch.
I also noticed a mistake, a real 'Doh!' moment - That front hatch is too big - I've left open the whole panel in which the hatch sits
By the time I noticed, it was too late to do anything about it, without making a real mess - and even if I'd realised sooner, it would have taken some VERY delicate cutting to separate the hatch from it's frame, as there's only about 2mm or 3mm clearance around it.
I s'pose it was either do it this way, or leave it shut.

Cool insides. I had not noticed the hatch until you pointed it out.
