well im famous for my grand prix builds.. and today is no exception ( well its saves me biting my nails..) For todays Chinese Grand Prix i started at 0700 ( yes there really is a 0700 on a sunday...) i added the tail planes, assembled the wings and started building the cockpit, now i realise thats not how the instructions do it ,but there we have it....whilst i am waiting for the glue to dry i cut off the jet pods and turbines and exhausts. I paint inside the pods and semi-assemble......anyway in a " this post is worthless without pictures type stylie" here we go, with further explanations as required...

This is a dry fit...

The jet pods fit was really tight, so i glued them and they more or less snapped on. ( They werent going anywhere without glue but to make sure), both sides was an equally tight fit. It might be worth mentioning that i havent had much experience of building hasegawa kits and so far i can see the appeal. The fit is much tighter, even when it came to mating the fuselage halves the cockpit section didnt move and fitted straight into the recesses and went together really well, better in fact than the dry fit. it was glued and with minimum sanding the seam lines just disappeared.

One thing about this build which is also uncharacteristic of my builds, you have to decide which model you are going to build from the offset, because the me262 b-1 is different to the ME262U-1, it also requires you to drill out two holes to mount the aerials. The panel which has the guns sticking out is placed on after joining the fuselage halves enabling you to add nose weight if you had forgotten, fortunately i have compressed some air pellets and stuck them in using blu-tack.

So latest pics.... the cockpit section...nothing adde except masking tape seat belts

Here it is together...

looking at those photos i am undertaking more sanding to try and eliminate the seams completely....

A late finish at work and the ME262 was shouting at me " do some more.." so i resanded the seams put on the base coat of RLM76 on the top surfaces and the revell aqua color Anthrazit on the bottom, I put the cannon hatch on sanded in place and painted.

Now the weird thing i was reading another article on someone elses build on another forum( makes me feel dirty admitting i have looked elsewhere lol) and they applied the same distressed marking as i was planning to, but they had an airbrush. The crux of the matter was that they said that the RLM75 looked too dark so they sprayed another layer of RLM76 over the top.....this got me thinking...

It was getting late but i added 5 drops of RLM76 to my mixing palette( an old bathroom tile) with 3 drops of water, when mixed it gave me the effect i was after. Painting it on with a hairy stick, the paint was thin enough to pigment and lighten the darker camouflage,Then in a fit of inspiration i did the same with the RLM 75 as it looked a bit too hard lined ( after the 76 had dried just to give me an extra distressed look...)...and whilst there is still plenty of work to do i like what i see...

Because of the time of the this post the same happened when i got up, i had painted the undercarriage on the sprue, and whn i got up this morning, instead of the usual cup of tea, i found my self assembling the front and main gear, and before i had even had a brew, the undercarriage was on....

Pictures:
This one is before the gear was fitted....

here we are progress so far....gear doors still need painting, ill do that when im convinced its set.

Enjoy...

cant put this down lol....When fitting the front nose gear, i dislodged one of the nose weights and now unlessu pick it up and tilt it nose down to readjust the nose weight back into the nose it becomes a tailsitter...so not being one to be beaten by weight, I crushed two air pellets and put them in one of the tanks, thought it was easy and repeated for the second.

Fitted tank mounting pylons..painted them anthracite and fitted the tanks...built the antennas currently waiting for them to set so i can paint.....so i dipped the canopy in Klear and left to dry ready for paint and attachment.....

Decalling continues..... didnt want you all to think i was slacking off....LOL

Since this picture was taken i have sliced off the hinges of the cockpit so they no longer protrude from the cockpit....

ok weekend woes and top tips time, when u notice a large gap that has appeared between the fuselage and the first part of the canopy, when u fill the said gap, with PVA glue, watch the end of your paint brush cos it will knock the aerials on the front off....twice.... Modelling has been suspended due to bad language outbreak.....

To make matters worse the carper monster ate one of said aerials.....need to find more wire.....

Thanks for your kind words dazzled......
