Re: Tom's Cold War Warriors
Great stuff Tom, they would both be relative monsters in 1/350!!
Best wishes
Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: Tom's Cold War Warriors
Thanks chaps today I have mostly been bending and manipulating tiny bits of brass.
Top Pair radar:
Which will both go back to back at the top of the mack:
Attached to these delicate mounting arms:
I'm not that well versed in PE work so these were nail biting to say the least but thankfully nothing went ping or got bent out of shape. Next I'll need to paint these parts before mounting the radar dishes.
Regards
Tom

Great work Tom. Although PE can be a fiddly nightmare, I'd say it's been well worth the effort here.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Tom's Cold War Warriors
Thanks guys , making the most of a rare two days off work I've been pushing hard on the Kalinin.
Lower hull has been painted Red Oxide and the sticky out bits fitted:
I've also repainted the upper hull in Hu167 Barley Grey (my closest match for Soviet Black Sea Fleet Grey) so its just a case of adding the (in this scale) super thin white waterline.
The deck furniture is gradually being populated:
And I've spent some time removing the plastic barrels for the AK-130 turret before fitting Master brass replacements - I've used the Master stuff before and although not cheap they are well worth the investment for the far finer detail and scale effect:
We are rapidly getting towards the point I've been trying to put off - fitting the PE railings to the inner superstructure. I'll be leaving the outer deck rails to the very last but the inner ones need to be done whilst I can still get access to all the areas.
Wish me luck
Regards

Re: Tom's Cold War Warriors
those barrels do look the nuts!
Good luck with the PE rails; I didn't really enjoy doing them in 1/350 so your 1/700 is not my idea of fun

Always happy to help with domestic bliss Kit out of curiosity which set did you order? I only ask because I need a set for the Iowa and wasn't sure which type of 16" were required.

Sent for this set, as far as I'm aware the main guns never changed (wouldn't be the first time I was wrong)

Re: Tom's Cold War Warriors
Thanks guys spent a very enjoyable day at the Yeovilton show with some great people (see the stash thread for my purchases ) yesterday but got back to the Kalanin today. The focus was to get some more work done on the mack assembly:
Close up:
And in situ:
After cursing and swearing with those lattices' and walkways all afternoon I've given in and ordered a P/E bending tool to make things easier so I'll be leaving things alone till that arrives later this week.
Regards
Tom
