Here post information and references to Ships and Ship Modeling.
A good place to ask historical or technical questions.

I'll lead this off with two of my favorite ship modeling books.

Ask away -- modeling, historical, configurations -- we'll try to get it answered.

And for those in the UK:

Ship Models from Kits by David Griffith:

An the "Shipcraft" series of books

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_nos ... =shipcraft

Got to agree with Viking re the Ship Models from Kits by David Griffith. Although it is written around building two particular ships, The Tamiya Indianapolis and a resin HMAS Sydney, these are just vehicles for demonstrating techniques. Very well written and easy to follow. This book got me started in maritime modelling.

Same for the Shipcraft series which are written specifically for modellers. The Bismarck one certainly helped me to get my model looking OK and I have recently got the one for the Yamato ready for when I build my Tamiya 1:700 Yamato

Two good sources of books for British ships are Maritime Books (website is http://www.navybooks.com/;) and Fan Publications (http://www.fanpublications.co.uk/;) .

Yes, the Shipcraft books are good for specific ships or classes -- I have several, KG-V, Flowers, A-I/Tribal.
The Anatomy of the Ship series is another invaluable reference.

Unfortunately nautical books are not as prevalent as aircraft books and the price is significantly inversely proportional to that.

Here's a partial list of "ship" books from my library, unfortunately not in any specific order but you might see some titles of interest (no they're not for sale or loan, but I can provide research from them.) The listing shows title and author. I have excluded more general histories and tried to focus on ship-oriented books which might provide modeling info.
