USS Nimitz - Monogram 1:820 ***Finished***

Post by Molly-new »

As my first ship build in a verrrrrrrrrrry long time, I will be attempting to build the USS Nimitz, from Monogram:

I bought this cheap off e-bay for the Phantom, so it is nice to have a reason to build the ship as well.

Good ones, Chip.
I'm not familiar with that Nimitz kit and will be interested in the sprue shots. Even at 1/820 it's still going to be about 15" long and 3" wide, so a good sized one.
And it's OK to build the Phantom in this GB also !

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Much nicer than being in an LSL though.

Nice one Brews. There is no mention of the scale in the instructions, and I thought I may have to put my Maths head on to try and convert it. I found out that the original ship is 332.84m long. :)

I will get sprue picks up in the morning once the light improves.

Sprues and instructions as promised. Not many parts, but they are quite nicely detailed:

do you get decals for the demarcation lines on the flight deck ? or is that a paint it job ?

Looks like a nice kit anyway.

Unfortunately it is going to have to be a very, very fine paint job. The lines are raised so this may aid the task. The only decals supplied are the no. 68's for the deck and tower, and the nameplate.

So you're going to be hand-painting the aircraft markings also ? That and the deck markings will keep you busy a while ...

Made a start on this last night by attaching Elevators, Crane Platforms and other add-on's to the hull:

Nice fit throughout so far, though I am having problems sourcing the colours required as there are no colour call-outs on the instructions.
