Re: Shaun Fokker - DVII
This weekend I've been getting some paint on. Paints are Revell, which I've been using for the past few years alongside Humbrol and I find them to be very good.
Yesterday I airbrushed Carmine Red after drilling more holes for aileron and elevator cables. I also sprayed the wing centre section matt white but forgot to take a pic, mind you it was white paint against white plastic so not much to see really!
This afternoon has been spent masking the red areas on the fuselage and the white centre stripe on the wing. Then it was on with the blue.
The differences in paint shade in the above pic is due to my desk lamps. I'll take off the masking later this evening and deal with any touch ups that may be required. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to apply some gloss varnish ready for decalling later in the week.
Thanks for looking.

I see you went for the dark blue interpretation of the colour scheme too.
Here's the lighter colour blue version:

More speculation on colour I see. Well in this case Andrew, I did what Revell told me

Well at least half of the people who've built this plane agree with you (and Revell). Personally I think darker is more plausible. A bunch of Prussians slapping Prussian Blue over the streaky factory finish!ShaunW wrote:More speculation on colour I see. Well in this case Andrew, I did what Revell told me

Looking good there with Berthold's Fokker. I have the Revell 3 in 1 kit and this is one of the options I will be building some time in the future.
All the best.

Re: Shaun Fokker - DVII
Thanks Greg. Had the decals been with my version of the kit I would have gone for Udet's version with the candy striped upper wing and large LO! inscriptions on the fuselage. That said however, Herr Berthold's machine is also a colourful choice and tonight I have removed the masking and applied a thin coat of Humbrol Gloss Cote, ready for the decals.
Here's the view from the left
and from the right
In addition, I've also started to paint up the rest of the kit and have gone for gloss black struts as per Revell's suggestion.
With a bit of luck I'll start on the decals either tomorrow or Wednesday.
Thanks for looking.

Re: Shaun Fokker - DVII
Tonight I've had my first ever attempt with lozenge, my main areas of interest with aircraft are Cold War jets and airliners, so this is something quite different!
In just under two hours I managed to lozenge up the bottom wing, although that time also included cutting up the kit supplied paint-them-yourself lozenge decals to use as templates for the Koster stuff.
I cut sections of Koster lozenge into panels and applied them using Micro Set and Micro Sol and as you can see the decals were still settling down when I took the photo. The decals behaved in an exemplary fashion and deserve better than to have fallen into the hands of a bodger like me. I can see some of the joins and will hopefully cover those with the rib tape decals - stop sniggering at the back all of you veteran WW1 builders I think it just about passes muster, thankfully all of the lozenge is on the underside!! Of course, no claim is made as to accuracy.

It says 1/72nd on the pack, maybe it got stretched a bit with all the decal solutions as I desperately fought to make it cover the wing edges

That's how I read your comment Bruce and I was attempting to be amusing with my reply. Oh dear, maybe we should leave the jokes to someone else

Look at the difference in the camo. MPD 4 colour. Definitely 1/72.
It was 4 colour wasn't it?
