Pugz Black Buck Victor
Pugz Black Buck Victor
I will be building the revell 1:72 Handley Page Victor in the 57 sqn Black Buck markings....
In 1982 a lone bomber sent to drop bombs on a remote island....except that island was half way round the world. A total of 11 Handley Page Victors would be required just to get the bomber to its target....just to send a message to the argentinian invaders that this was british soil.
The longest refuelling sortie for the longest bombing sortie ever, now well known thanks to Rowland Whites book Vulcan 607, lets hope it doesnt turn into the longest build ever! ( Certainly one of the longest kits that has been in the stash....)
This was also the first aircraft i came into contact with, and one of the reasons i decided to join the Royal Air force....( theres no sound like 4 Conways at full power at 0400 on a Scramble....)
So on to the build....

Re: Pugz Black Buck Victor
In my battered top opening box i pull out the plastic bag and for the first time in a long time the kit takes my breath away....wow theres alot of plastic in here, a quick glance at the decal sheet and it states they were printed by Revell in Italy.....and i always thought that this kit was the matchbox kit in a revell box....
For the kids this aircraft was designed as a long range nuclear bomber and then as a reconnaissance platform before finally being trialled as a tanker.
This is what it looks like coming out of the box, i have taken two pictures of the sprues one with a tin of paint in just to give you an idea of size.
and with paint
its ma-hoos-ive " its a whole lotta plastic....a whole lotta victor" as a rock band almost said once...

Re: Pugz Black Buck Victor
Nice to see another Victor in the GB. I'm doing the same kit in it's 1982 Matchbox incarnation. It'll beinteresting to see how the moulds have held up.

Re: Pugz Black Buck Victor
Sorry to hear about your hassles. Hope everything gets better soon. I always find that a quiet hour or two at the model bench, or even building on a tray, is quite a good way of making myself feel a little better about things.

Re: Pugz Black Buck Victor
thanks splash....gnat finished now for a big push on the victor....so heres where we are...
then i attached the wings and joined the fuselage, i have also sanded the seams, and added a massive 40g nose weight, if i t ever fall off the shelf i will certainly give u a headache it weighs a ton lol...
tail fin has been constructed, end pieces of the wings have been glued together, and the refuelling pods/integral tanks have also been joined together, so i am better placed than it looks.....
4 days left....no pressure then LOL did i mention its gonna be in grey and green finish with white undersides.....hmmm

Re: Pugz Black Buck Victor
I hope the nose gear can stand that 40g of ballast! Four days to finish this big boy will be some achievement Pugz, best of luck.

Re: Pugz Black Buck Victor
Looking good Pugz. Less sink marks than my Matchbox version anyway. Hows the fit for gaps?
