1/35 Tamiya Stug Ausf. III B
Hello,
Just realised I forgot to upload my latest favourite AFV here.
Those "oil spills" on the fenders/hull are due to a very badly applied acrylic matte varnish spray (Vallejo) which left behind some very gruesome white deposits. I tried to gently brush them out with several utensils, to no avail. Therefore, oil/diesel it was chosen to hide the thing. I know it is not very historically accurate for a German AFV to look like it was badly neglected (one of my friends said that the crew would have been court martialed for gruesome neglect in the '40s if their tin box would look like that) , but I'm quite satisfied with the overall look.
So, here goes, out of the box acrylics, paint brush only:

Very nice; court martial or not, I bet more than a few 'tin boxes' looked pretty much as you have portrayed!
Best wishes

Nice work. Very real looking.

Got to love the stug, your model is terrific, makes my feeble attempts pale in comparison.I am now going to lie down in a darkened room and decide if I should give up this hobby and take up knitting instead.

Looks pretty nice. The mud effects on the front plate and fenders are especially effective. On your next build start out the hull sides like you did on this, but then dampen your brush in thinner or water (depending on whether you use enamels or acrylics), and then gently down-stroke on the hull sides to streak the dirt downwards, simulating the work of fluids and gravity. Its a small thing but goes a really long way.
When you mention the oil spills, do you mean over the parts with the skull decals? That crusty look is actually pretty cool. I think it would look great for crusted on mud in recesses and such. I wonder if you could repeat what went wrong, but in a controlled fashion. Maybe you can post a how-to?
Again, I like what you've done here.

Excellent work Sid, I really like the way that has turned out with a used but not (too) abused appearance - a good campaign finish I would say! I have also experienced white deposits with Vallejo matt coat in the past and I now stir it for a good ten minutes before application - so far no problems since.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Celt, do not even think about it! I consider this "work" as therapeutic as it relaxes me after handling customers all day long. If you could only see my first models... now those are some catastrophes... In regards to your builds, I can only say, if only I could build planes as good as you, I'd be as happy as a clam
Softscience, thank you kindly for your tips, will put them to use for my next build, a JS-2. And yes, a step by step has crossed my mind, and it will certainly happen. I just get carried away, and when I remember to take pictures, it is almost always too late
ShaunW, thank you very much! will stir the hell out of that can next time, that's for sure
